Tune of Salem. Tune and a passenger in the Kia, 42-year old Sherry L. Tune of Salem, suffered minor injuries and were taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint. The Peterbuilt sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol announced that troopers using the Patrol’s helicopter equipped with a short haul rescue line rescued two turkey hunters who became stranded last week by rising floodwaters in Texas County. On Thursday, April 18th at 2:59 in the afternoon, Troop G Headquarters received a telephone call from an individual reporting two turkey hunters trapped by floodwaters near Boiling Springs, south of Licking.  The caller stated that one of the men was confined to a wheelchair and the two men were unable to escape from a field due to rising water. A trooper from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and firefighters from the Licking Fire Department responded to the scene, and after assessing the situation, determined because of the extremely inaccessible location, that rescue by air would be the best course of action.  A Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter was dispatched from the Patrol’s general headquarters in Jefferson City, and a short haul rescue of the two men was completed at 5:23 pm. The men were identified as 54-year old Keith Duckworth, and 53-year old Wayne Arling, both of St. Louis.  Duckworth was transported to a St. Louis area hospital for evaluation and treatment related to exposure. This type of rescue requires a helicopter with lift capabilities and a pilot with precision skills.  The Patrol’s rescue program is FAA certified and allows the Patrol to provide a capability that few law enforcement agencies in the Midwest possess.

At 12:04 that afternoon, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a forgery. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a check, forged it in the amount of $250.00, and cashed it at Country Mart. The suspect was later released after posting bond and was later given a date to appear in court. At 9:53 that evening, an officer was called to Mobil Convenience Store in reference to a theft of fuel. Anyone with information regarding the child taking adult medication or the forgery, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
