The Salem Board of Aldermen met Monday night for their regular meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers. At the last meeting, the Board wanted a larger variety of bids for a tractor for the cemetery and a lawnmower for the parks and recreation department. Mayor Gary Brown asked that this discussion be postponed until the next meeting to allow for more time to get additional bids and this was approved. The board approved the consent agenda for March 2014. The sales tax received by the city in April was $90,886.28 and that is up nearly $30,000 for the fiscal year. The Capital Improvements Sales tax totaled $45,443.33 for the month, which is up over $14,000 for the fiscal year. Mayor Brown presented a report from the Environmental Protection Agency stating that no apparent deviations from PCB regulations were observed during a recent inspection after a complaint was made to the EPA regarding electric transformers. City Attorney William Camm Seay read Resolution No. 3-2014 declaring the results of the April 8^th Municipal Election official. After this resolution was approved, City Clerk Mary Happel presented outgoing Mayor Gary Brown and West Ward Alderman Kenny Nash with plaques for their service to the community. Happel then gave the oath of office to new West Ward Alderman Molly Zettel, East Ward Alderman Ryan Whitaker and new Mayor J.J. Tune. The board elected East Ward Alderman Philip Giacomelli as the President of the Board of Aldermen. Interim City Administrator Ray Walden stated that the City Wide Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, May 3^rd and the Spring clean up weeks will be held the weeks of April 28 and May 5^th. Walden reported that an insurance claim has been submitted for the pole damage at Al Brown Fields. New aluminum poles are being installed and will be completed within three weeks. Walden said a budget workshop would be called to begin work on next years budget in the near future. He said he needs more information from DNR to determine the expected increase in sewer treatment plant expenditures. The Healthy Dent County fiscal year end financial report was included in the board packets as per the lease agreement. Mayor J.J. Tune discussed the possibility of having a 30-minute open discussion after each board meeting to allow for public comments.  This will be discussed at the next meeting. He reported that he has a Facebook page and is allowing public comments on his page. Tune stated that one of his main goals is to clean up the town and will address this issue with the nuisance officer. Walden presented an invoice for $5,838 to repair a pump at the treatment plant. This request was approved. Tune presented a Reserve Fund Balance Policy from the discussion at the workshop that was held last week. This policy proposes that a transfer of 5% would go to reserve fund balances of prior completed fiscal year’s actual expenditures for the electric, water and sewer departments with the goal of a having at least 25% reserves for each department. The budgeted transfer to the reserve funds would be made quarterly with the 4^th quarter installment amounts to be determined by the city’s financial condition. The board went into closed session to discuss personnel.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announced that during the month of May, Troop I will conduct a DWI saturation in Dent County. Captain Kenley would also like to inform the public that from May 1^st through May 12^th Troop I officers will be joining other Missouri law enforcement agencies during the Youth Alcohol Mobilization. During this period, officers will be stepping up enforcement efforts with a goal of removing impaired drivers from Missouri highways. With prom and graduation season here, Missouri law enforcement agencies want to make sure Missouri youth are celebrating safe and sober.

The Salem Tiger tennis team will participate in the West Plains Invitational today at 9:00.

St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright tossed seven scoreless innings before leaving Tuesday's 3-0 win over the New York Mets with a hyperextended right knee. Wainwright (4-1) gave up just four hits and struck out three. Jon Jay went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Cardinals, who improved to 5-4 on an 11-game road trip. Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. The Cardinals and Mets play again tonight and you can hear it on KMSO at 5:35.

Mike Moustakas homered and James Shields struck out nine Indians in six innings as the Kansas City Royals evened this four-game set with an 8-2 win over Cleveland on Tuesday. Eric Hosmer went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored for Kansas City. Billy Butler and Alcides Escobar had two hits and Alex Gordon drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who will play the Indians again tonight.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Chicago tonight to face the Blackhawks in Game 4 of the Western Conference quarterfinals at 8:30. St. Louis leads the series 2-1. KSMO will join this game in progress following Cardinal baseball.
