The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports for calls on Friday, April 17^th. At 11:39 that morning, seven firefighters responded to a gas leak in the 1100 block of Coffman Street. Upon arrival firefighters secured the scene and contacted the gas company. The scene was brought under control at 12:37 that afternoon. At 4:30 that afternoon, the DCFPD responded to a brush fire on Route H. Upon arrival firefighters found about 5 acres on fire, extinguished the fire and had the scene under control at 5:22 pm. Also at 4:30, a call came in for a brush fire on Oak Street in Salem. Ten firefighters found that there was less than an acre on fire and had the scene under control 7:56 that evening. At 9:00 that evening, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire on Route HH. Upon arrival 12 firefighters found a small fire in the ditch. The scene was under control at 9:09 pm. At 9:17 that same evening, a call came in for a structure fire off of Highway 19 North. Upon arrival 15 firefighters found that there was an open air saw mill that was on fire as well as come piles of lumber. The fire was extinguished and under control at 9:48 that same night.  

An accident happened at 1:58 in the early morning on Wednesday, April 15^th at the intersection of Highway 19 and BP. According to the Salem Police report, a blue 1991 Ford Explorer driven by 49-year old Deborah Morgan and owned by Robin Morgan of Salem was traveling south on highway 19. Morgan failed to keep the Ford on the roadway and collided with a road sign. The Ford continued south and collided with the ditch and became stuck. Morgan suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Hospital. The Ford sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem. 

An accident occurred at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 17^th at the intersection of Third and Walker Streets in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a maroon 1994 Ford Escort driven by Gregory Stacy of Salem was westbound on Third Street approaching Walker Street. The Ford drove off the south side of Third Street and continued west through the yards. The Ford struck several trashcans and a mailbox and then struck the stop sign on Walker Street. No injuries were reported. The Ford sustained extensive damage. 

An accident occurred at 5:30 Tuesday evening in Crawford County on Route TT about two miles east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Plymouth driven by 16-year old Chastity Wilson of Steelville was traveling southbound. The Plymouth traveled off the right side of the roadway. Wilson overcorrected causing the Plymouth to travel back onto the roadway and off the left side where it struck a ditch and overturned. Wilson suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Washington by EMS. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Plymouth was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles and Sons Towing of Steelville.  

An accident happened at 2:10 in the afternoon on Friday, April 17^th at the intersection of Highway 32 west and South Jackson Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a white 1996 Chevy Lumina driven by Cheryl Lough of Salem was traveling west attempting to make a left turn off of South Jackson Street and a red 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Peggy Sue Jarvis of Salem was attempting to go straight across highway 32 to continue on South Jackson. Both vehicles collided causing extensive damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported at the time of the accident. 

The Ozark Scenic Riverways is seeking your input on the planning of some upgrades to the facilities at the Welch Lodge located on the Current River on National Park Service Road 152 off Highway K in Shannon County. The plan is to renovate and update the Welch Lodge to modern safety and accessibility standards. This plan will provide fully adequate facilities at one site for organizations as well as park partners to conduct conservation educational programs and research groups. Public participation on the planning process is being sought and will be considered as to ensure national heritage, cultural traditions and the community surroundings so that they all work together. New Missouri 4-H requirements specify all 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects (including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy goats, rabbits and poultry) must complete the Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance Certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing for that project. All Dent County 4-H/FFA food animal project members must attend the Quality Assurance meeting being held Tuesday, April 28th, beginning at 7:00 pm at the Commons Youth Building in order to be a member in good standing and/or to show/sell at the county fair this fall. Attendance must be for the entire length of the meeting. Clover Kids are not required to attend, but are welcome. All other area Quality Assurance meetings have already been held and Dent County is NOT planning to hold a make-up meeting.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Mountain Grove Panthers today in an SCA contest starting at 4:30. Salem is 10-2 on the year and 4-0 in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Track Teams will be at Mountain Grove today starting at 2:30.

Joel Pineiro tossed eight-plus strong innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Mets, 5-2, in the middle test of a three-game series from Busch Stadium. Pineiro (3-0) gave up six hits, two runs, walked two and earned a third straight win to start the season for his efforts, which were backed by Albert Pujols' two RBI and runs-scoring hits by Joe Thurston and Skip Schumaker. Cody Rasmus finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for St. Louis who won their second straight game. The series finale will start today at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.

Brian Bannister threw six strong innings to lead the Kansas City Royals in a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the middle installment of a three-game set at Progressive Field. Bannister (1-0), making his first start of the season gave up four hits with two walks and a strikeout to get the win. Joakim Soria tossed a scoreless ninth to get his fifth save of the year. Willie Bloomquist went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for the Royals, who snapped a two-game slide. David DeJesus also had an RBI in the win, while Coco Crisp went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Mike Jacobs scored the other run for KC. The Royals and Indians play again this afternoon.

Funeral services for Richard Paul Wilber of Salem, age 67, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Mount Herman Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the SBU Salem Scholarship.

Doris Janette Griffith of Salem, age 63, passed away on April 22^nd. In honor of Mrs. Griffith’s wishes, there will be no service. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
