The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving drugs and an assault on a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of a weapon. On April 17^th at 10:00 in the evening, a deputy, while conducting a driver license and insurance checkpoint in conjunction with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, checked a driver of a vehicle and noticed an odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A check of the passenger revealed an active warrant from another county. Investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 24-year old male, for Possession of 35 grams or Less of Marijuana. Also on April 17^th at 11:11 the same evening, while on routine patrol, a deputy observed a vehicle cross the centerline 3 times on Highway 19 South.  After stopping the vehicle, investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year old male for Possession of 35 Grams or Less of Marijuana and Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On April 18^th at 3:20 in the afternoon, a deputy observed a vehicle with no license plate, a broken windshield, and a rear placard that was not discernable. Further investigation led to the search of the vehicle. A plastic bag was located containing 108 foil wrapped chocolate blocks, which had been in a backpack. A field test of one of the blocks tested positive for marijuana. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year old male was taken into custody and a warrant was issued for Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute or Sell, and Hindering Prosecution. Also, a warrant was issued for an 18-year old female who was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute or Sell, and Forgery. The subjects were identified as Ryan McGinn and Amelia K. Custer, both from Villa Ridge, Missouri. Bond was set at $20,000.00 for each subject. Also on April 18^th at 8:15 in the evening, a Deputy, while on routine patrol, observed a vehicle parked in the middle of Dent County Road 5100. Upon making contact with the driver a vehicle search was conducted. A metal grinder was located which contained marijuana residue, marijuana seeds were located and a prescription bottle which contained two foil packets. Inside the foil packets were blotter tabs. As a result, an 18-year old was arrested for Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia. Further charges are pending the lab results in regards to the blotter tabs. On April 19^th at 12:04 in the morning, while on routine patrol, a Deputy stopped a vehicle for a license plate lamp violation. Further investigation led to the driver producing a baby food jar, which contained a green leafy plant matter. As a result a 28-year male was issued a citation for Possession of Under 35 Grams Marijuana. On April 20^th at approximately 1:56 in the morning, the Department received a report of a man approaching a residence with a long gun. The residence is located off of Dent County Road 6160. Deputies requested assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Salem Police Department. As law enforcement was responding, the male suspect had left the residence in a vehicle and upon fleeing forced the vehicles of the Deputies and the Salem Police Officer into the ditch. A pursuit ensued on Dent County Road 6150, then on Route F onto Dent County Road 6090 and into a private driveway. Responding officers took a 32-year old male into custody as he was exiting his vehicle. As a result, a warrant was issued for Ted L. Glidewell, III with charges of three counts of Assault on Law Enforcement, two counts of Resisting Arrest for a Felony, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession and Discharging Loaded Firearm while Intoxicated, and 3 counts of Armed Criminal Action. A cash only bond was set at $60,000.00.

The 2008 Business Expo was a huge success with nearly 600 people in attendance. There were 45 vendors displaying and demonstrating their services and products. There were four prizes drawn for at the end of the Expo on Saturday. Jesse Barton won the home inspection valued at $350 and a free credit report from American First Financial. Dorothy Hedrick was the prizewinner of the $200 Visa gift card from the Bank of Salem. Wayne Sapaugh won the digital camera and digital frame valued at $250 from Progressive Ozark Bank and Financial Group and Wayne Reed won a $200 gift certificate from Bottorff’s Southtown Furniture. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the Salem R-80 School District for the use of the gym. The Chamber would also like to thank all the vendor’s, those who worked hard to prepare for the Expo, those who took time to set-up their displays and demonstrations and to those you came out in support of the community by attending the 2008 Business Expo.

The Dent County Schools, Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will be closed Friday, April 25^th for Spring Break. Classes will resume on Monday, April 28^th.

The Salem Tiger Baseball makeup game with Cabool yesterday was postponed due to wet grounds and will be played today at 3:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com. Salem is 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in the SCA.

Gabe Kapler singled home the game-winning run in the 12th inning as the Milwaukee Brewers came away with a 9-8 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals to split their two-game series at Miller Park. Albert Pujols finished 2-for-6 at the plate with a run scored and two batted in for the Cardinals, who have lost three of their last four. Aaron Miles recorded four hits, while Skip Schumaker and Troy Glaus notched three hits apiece. Kyle Lohse, who came into the game with a 1.48 ERA, had his first rough outing of the season for St. Louis, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in just four innings on the hill. Isringhausen (1-1) was credited with the loss after only recording one out before the game-winner. The Cardinals ran out of position players in the ninth and had to move Pujols to second base for the first time in his career. The Cardinals head to Pittsburgh for another two-game set starting tonight at 5:45 or right after Salem Tiger Baseball on KSMO Radio.

Casey Blake went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, two doubles and six runs batted in, while struggling starter C.C. Sabathia dominated over six shutout innings as the Cleveland Indians torched the Kansas City Royals, 15-1, in the opener of a three-game series. Gil Meche (1-3) lasted just 3 1/3 innings after being hammered for eight runs on nine hits as the Royals suffered their fifth straight setback. The Royals bullpen didn't fare any better, as four pitchers were rocked for seven runs over the final 5 2/3 innings. Mark Teahen's eighth-inning single provided the sole run for Kansas City. The two teams play again tonight.

Funeral services for Pamela Hanks of Licking, age 58, will be held today at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from Noon until time of service. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gregory Steven Hanks Family.
