The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5070, 5630, 5680, 6630 and 6633. Purcell said that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6620 and repairs were being performed on a brush cutter. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading was going to be done Dent County Roads 2090, 2220, 3020, 3160, 3165 and 5330 and materials were going to be added to county roads 3030, 3050 and 5330. Larson also said that brush was going to cut on county road 2360 and repairs are being done to a brush cutter. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that he and Commissioner Larson attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for MERS Goodwill located on Highway 32 East. Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings stopped by the meeting and presented to the commission material on drugs that the Dent County Sheriff’s Department is distributing to the local schools and wanted to thank those businesses in the community that made donations for the information in Law Publications. Stallings also informed the commission that when presenting the material on drugs, the department is also addressing fighting and bullying as well. Commissioner Purcell then reported that he attended a PACE (Property Assessment Clean Energy) meeting, which is for residential and commercial property owners. Those individuals and businesses taking part in upgrading their energy efficiency could have up to 20 years to pay back the loan through a special property tax assessment and that 20 states currently have this program. Purcell also reported that he would be attending the Region I HSOC (Homeland Security Oversight Committee) meeting Thursday afternoon where they will be reviewing grants. The Dent County Commissioners will not be meeting on Monday, April 25th, but will hold their next meeting on Thursday, April 28th at the Dent County courthouse at 9:00.

The Salem Baseball Tigers clinched at least a portion of the SCA Conference Championship in a lightening and rain shortened 3-0 five-inning win over the Mountain View/Liberty Eagles Thursday. Salem scored all three runs in the 4th inning on an RBI infield single by Lane Stluka and an RBI groundout by Hunter Barnes. Brady Floyd gave up four hits in five innings to get the win, stranding eight Eagle players. Salem is 6-0 in the SCA and 9-3 overall. They will host Mountain Grove on Monday in an attempt win the SCA championship outright. The last time Salem was conference champs was in 2009.

Kyle Lohse was stellar in a two-hit shutout to help the St. Louis Cardinals take the three-game series against the Washington Nationals with a 5-0 win. Lohse (3-1) walked just two batters and struck out six for the Cardinals, who won the second game of a doubleheader against Washington on Wednesday to break a two-game losing streak. Alongside the impressive pitching performance, Matt Holliday and Albert Pujols each had two-run homers. The Cards host the Cincinnati Reds for a three game series starting tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

Melky Cabrera's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth lifted Kansas City over Cleveland, 3-2, in the finale of a four-game set. Reliever Aaron Crow (2-0) earned the win when he pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Royals, who recorded a split. Sean O'Sullivan went six-plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts for Kansas City. The Royals will travel to Texas to face the Rangers.

The seventh and eighth grade Honors Choir members will join the Upper Elementary Honors Choir to sing the National Anthem on July 28th at Busch Stadium. The band will be playing “God Bless America” prior to the choirs singing the National Anthem. Funeral services for Melba Dean Plank (Medlock) of Willow Springs, formerly of Salem, age 70, will be today at 1:00 at the Willow Springs Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery near West Plains. Memorials may be made to the Willow Springs Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Maxine Watson of Granite City, Illinois, age 82, will be held today at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the cemetery.

A Memorial Service for Paul Strong of Salem, age 57, will be held today at 2:30 at the Southwinds Apartment Community Room in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Rance Medlock of Davisville, age 70, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Mahurin of Salem, age 55, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Internment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Jerry Mahurin.

Funeral services for Myrtle C. Gerlach of St. James, age 95, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. James.

Funeral services for Isa Sea Young of Salem, age 91, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be private.

Funeral services for Eugene A. Bell of Salem, age 84, will be held Monday at 12:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8;00 Sunday night. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be held at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Welfare Society.

Funeral services for Linda Kay Light of Rolla, age 40, Benjamin Dalton Jordan Light age 10 and Brooklyn Taylor Mercedes Light, age 1, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Funeral services for Mary Faye Cook of Salem, age 84, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 Tuesday morning until service time. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Southwest Baptist College. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
