The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a domestic dispute, drug activity, theft, a burglary and a traffic stop. On Tuesday, April 13th at 10:35 a.m. an officer was dispatched to Iron and Fifth Streets in reference a domestic dispute that led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem female for assaulting a 30-year old House Springs male. She was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on two unrelated warrants. At 3:00 p.m. that afternoon, an officer was investigating drug activity in the 500 block of East Acuff that led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and marijuana paraphernalia. On Wednesday, April 14th at 8:50 a.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a chrome Dyno bicycle valued $350.00 from the yard of a residence near Warfel and Center. At 11:30 a.m. that same morning, an officer was detailed to the 1500 block of South Main in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the garage of a residence and took a Makita SawZall and tools valued $260.00. That night at 11:17 p.m. a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 24-year old Chesterfield male for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.  He posted bond and was released with three summonses to appear in court. The Dent County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 49^th annual meeting will be held at the Commons Youth Building on Thursday, April 22^nd. Registration begins at 5:30, followed by dinner provided by the Sligo United Methodist Church Ladies. Awards will be presented at 6:45 and the speaker will be Will McClain, an Agronomist with University Extension, and he will discuss a Balanced Forage Program. The Dent County Commissioners held their quarterly nightly meeting Monday in the Judicial Building Courtroom. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the year-to-date revenues are $241,993.09 compared to $234,263.72, which is up $7,729.36 over last year and that the budget is on track thus far. Skiles reported that the remodeling work is done at the Judicial Building Annex and the Juvenile Office has moved in, and by the end of the month, the Public Administrators Office will move in. The commission will meet with the Prosecuting Attorney to discuss the remodeling to be done before her office moves downstairs in the Judicial Building. Skiles also reported that 300 plat books have been ordered from Ruble Surveying of Salem and they will be ready July 15th. The Dent County Commissioners, Salem media, concerned citizens and others met with the National Park Service on Wednesday, April 14th to address 100 traces and trails that the NPS plans on closing, with most of the traces and trails being in the Shannon County area. The NPS indicated that this would be a partnership, but after further discussion, informed them that they were not asking their permission nor did they need their permission. The Dent County Commission will be sending a letter to the National Park Service regarding the closing of those traces and trails in the Dent County area. In the Road and Bridge give their reports for the first quarter. District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell and District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that since the storm of May 8, 2009, road work crews have been mostly playing catch-up and that the winter was pretty rough on the roads in the area as well. Purcell wanted to thank the crews for their diligent efforts in playing catch-up. Larson also reported that there are FEMA re-imbursement projects that still need to be done by November 2010. Larson reported that it takes six weeks for ALL the roads to be graded and that is not counting weather conditions, sickness, vacation or holidays. He wanted to ask again that the public be patient as they are also working diligently to get all the roads back up to par. It was also reported that the Road and Bridge Department has used 32,000 tons of white rock and $6,000 more fuel in the first quarter of this year compared to the same time frame last year. Skiles then reported that the county is watching very closely Bill #1014 regarding prisoners in the jail system. The state is working at saving money that could put more of a burden on counties with the housing of prisoners in the county jails. Although things look rough for the state for the rest of this year, things are not looking any better for next year. Skiles did report that Dent County is in a lot better shape financial shape than most. The meeting was then adjourned.
