The Dent County Sheriff reported at approximately 8:50 Tuesday night, April 19th, a prisoner, 26-year old Kenneth Robert (Robbie) Klieber, escaped custody by over powering a deputy. Klieber is a white male, 6'01”, 170 lbs., brown or black hair, hazel eyes. Klieber was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and underwear, after discarding his jail uniform. Klieber was being held on felony sexual abuse charges. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff at 573-729-3241 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 573-368-2345.

The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Bernie English was in attendance to discuss the right-of-way that starts at the bridge on Dent County Road 6080. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading is going to be done on Dent County Roads 5610, 5620, 6660 and 6670; and that brush will be cut on Dent County Roads 6220 and 6230. He also said that two men would be hauling brown rock. District 2 Commissioner Gray Larson stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2330, 3110, 3310, 3313 and 4380; while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Road 2210. He also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2150 and that one worker is hauling brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he received an update on MoDOT work to be done in the area. He said that shoulder work will be done on Highway 19 from Steelville south to Highway 49 in 2012, and that the three bridges to be replaced in Dent County will happen next year. The bridge on Highway 32 will be replaced in April of 2012, the Bridge on Route H will be replaced in June 2012 and the Bridge on Route NN will be replaced in August 2012. There will be a public hearing in September this year to discuss these repairs. At the last meeting, Adhar Johnson with Clean Line Energy informed the commission of plans to construct a power line from wind farms in Kansas to southeast Missouri that may cross Dent County. Proposed routes won’t be known until late this year or early 2012. He will keep the commission informed. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Meredith Parsons of Salem was named an Honorary State FFA Degree recipient at the 83rd Missouri FFA Convention. Parsons has been a dedicated supporter of FFA for the past 40 years. In that time, she has served as a chaperone, chauffeur, proficiency sponsor and general supporter of FFA members and agriculture education in South Central Missouri. The Missouri FFA Association recognizes Honorary State FFA Degree recipients each year at its annual state convention for their valuable efforts and contributions to the FFA organization and its members. Those eligible to receive the Honorary FFA Degree include farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of the board of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, business professionals and others who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA while rendering outstanding service. The Missouri FFA has 25,077 members representing 326 chapters. Congratulations Meredith!

Congratulations to the Salem team who placed 2nd at the state finals of the WYSE Academic Challenge in the medium school division. The team consisted of Amber Blaylock, Jonathan Hambacker, Kayla Hemken, Lane Howard, Tarynn Huitt, Mitchell Lo, Emily Moser, Cheyenne Parker, Kevin Presley, Crystal Prince, Jesse Robinson, Kyle Robinson, Michael Walden, and Adam Wood.  Individual winners included Michael Walden and Kevin Presley who tied for third in Physics. Jesse Robinson and Kyle Robinson tied for third in Computer Science, and Michael Walden placed third in Chemistry.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Team will be in West Plains today for their invitational starting at 9:00 this morning.

The St. Louis Cardinal’s game with the Washington Nationals Tuesday evening was postponed due to rain. The two teams will make up the game this afternoon as part of a split day/night doubleheader with tonight’s make-up game starting at 1:15 p.m. followed by the regularly-scheduled game at 7:15 p.m. Both games can be heard on KSMO Radio. John Lannan and Jordan Zimmerman will start for Washington while Jake Westbrook and Jamie Garcia will throw the Red Birds.

The seventh and eighth grade Honors Choir members will join the Upper Elementary Honors Choir to sing the National Anthem on July 28th at Busch Stadium. The band will be playing “God Bless America” prior to the choirs singing the National Anthem. Jeff Francoeur's RBI single in the fifth inning proved to be the difference, as the Kansas City Royals held on to beat the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, at Kauffman Stadium. Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar both had two hits and an RBI for the Royals. Bruce Chen (3-0) gave up two runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts over seven strong innings to record the win. The Royals and Indians play again tonight.

Funeral services for Vernon Jewell Edmonson of Rolla, age 92, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla.

Funeral services for Melba Dean Plank (Medlock) of Willow Springs, formerly of Salem, age 70, will be Friday at 1:00 at the Willow Springs Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery near West Plains. Memorials may be made to the Willow Springs Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Maxine Watson of Granite City, Illinois, age 82, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Brookshire Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to Brookshire Cemetery.

A Memorial service for Paul Strong of Rolla, age 57, will be held Friday at 2:30 at the Southwinds Apartment Community Room in Salem.

Funeral services for Myrtle C. Gerlach of St. James, age 95, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. James.

Funeral services for Isa Sea Young of Salem, age 91, will be held Saturday from Noon to 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be private.

Funeral services for Kerry Brandt Stewart of Salem, age 68, are incomplete, but are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
