The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Tuesday, April 3^rd at 7:00 in the evening, a 52-year old Salem male was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Wednesday, April 4^th at 7:30 in the morning, an officer transported a 28-year old Salem male from the Texas County Jail to the Dent County Jail in lieu of two City of Salem warrants. Later that morning at 8:14, an officer was dispatched to Ellerman Auto Sales located at 601 West Rolla in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged the glass in a black 2007 Chevrolet truck. The value of the damage is $407.34. On Thursday, April 5^th at 12:26 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East Gibbs in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 30-year old Ellington male for disorderly conduct. He was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court upon his release. On Friday, April 6^th at 1:45 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. Later that afternoon at 4:00, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Poulan trimmer valued at $120 from a vehicle parked in the 300 block of West Franklin. On Saturday, April 7^th at 11:20 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $59.31. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, congratulated 32 employees that were honored at the Patrol’s annual awards and The MASTERS banquet on April 14, 2012 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, MO. One of those saluted with a 2011 Lifesaving Award was Troop I Corporal Kyle D. Wilmont of Salem. On December 31, 2011, Corporal Kyle D. Wilmont overheard radio traffic from the Salem Police Department regarding a suicidal subject. He immediately responded to the residence to provide assistance. Upon arriving, Corporal Wilmont and Salem Police Officer Joe Chase entered the home and found a man, wearing only a pair of shorts and covered in blood, lying face down in the hallway. After seeing the officers, the man got up and ran into a bedroom and jumped onto an unconscious female lying on the bed. Corporal Wilmont observed blood squirting from a large hole in the man's neck. When the two officers attempted to calm the man, he became combative, striking and kicking the officers. The two officers were able to gain control and Corporal Wilmont recognized the wound was spewing blood with each heart beat. Corporal Wilmont applied pressure to the man's neck believing his carotid artery had been cut. Corporal Wilmont was able to calm the man somewhat by talking to him. When emergency medical personnel arrived, the subject again became combative. Corporal Wilmont maintained control of the subject and kept pressure on the artery, so he could be assessed. When the man went into cardiac arrest, medical personnel worked to stabilize him. At this time, the female subject regained consciousness and became extremely aggressive. She spit on the officers and kicked Corporal Wilmont as he assisted the medical personnel. Once medical personnel took over the care of the male subject, Corporal Wilmont was able to restrain the female and take her into custody. The man was transported to an area hospital and then flown to a trauma center in St. Louis. He survived the incident. The female was taken to a local hospital where she recovered fully from a drug overdose.

ATTENTION: ALL 4-H/FFA Hog and Lamb Project Members! Weigh-in will be this Saturday, April 21^st, starting at 10:00 am and ending at 12:00 (NOON). The time is set back this year due to an FFA event that will get both youth and adults home in the wee hours of the morning. The weigh-in will be at the Salem Livestock Barn. All animals will be wormed and tagged, the first one for free.  If you wish to weigh in additional animals, hogs are $5 each and lambs are $3 each. Here is a reminder of the new ‘beginning weight’ rules: For Market Hogs: Hogs must have been farrowed after January 1, 2012 and the beginning weight for a hog may not exceed 100 lbs. And for Market Lambs: A lamb must have been born after January 1, 2012 and must have a complete set of baby teeth with no permanent teeth, and the beginning weight for a lamb may not exceed 70 lbs.
