The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 6370 and 6460, and rock will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Roads 5525 and 6255. He also said that brush cutting would be done on Dent County Road 5380. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2570 and 2580, and white rock will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Road 3150. He said that chip and seal repairs would continue on Dent County Road 3221. Larson said that the contracts for the purchase of the dump trucks have arrived and will be signed by the commissioners and sent back to the dealer. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that he thought that the quarterly meeting held Monday evening went well. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she would be attending a Missouri Association of Counties Legislative meeting on Monday and Tuesday. She said that she would also be attending a CERF meeting dealing with the retirement benefits. She also discussed with the commission about an invitation to join the National Association of Counties. The commissioners will review the information. At the last meeting, Commissioner Purcell visited with the MRPC and they said that DNR and the prisoner system approved two guards and six to eight people to clean up the dumpsite on Dent County Road 6370. The county will provide the trucks to carry off the trash. Mike Warren from the sheriff’s office came in and said that the sheriff’s parking lots are getting cracks in them and they need to be resealed. The commission will take care of that when the weather permits. Mayor Gary Brown from the City of Salem told the commissioners that Brad Nash had to resign his position as the City of Salem Emergency Management Director since he was elected as an alderman. The county will review the situation and make a decision later on the county’s Emergency Management Director. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The 6^th Annual Business Expo will be held on Saturday, April 18^th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Salem High School Gym. The annual event is organized by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the City of Salem, KSMO Radio and the Salem News. Some of the prizes that will be drawn for include a 5-piece dinette set, $50 in electric credit or weather radio, a 32-inch LCD TV, a $250 money tree, a $100 gift certificate and Sugar and Spice cookbooks, a $250 Visa gift card, a set of luggage, cutting boards, and a family photo session plus an 11 x 14 family portrait. An accident occurred at 3:20 Wednesday afternoon in Maries County on Highway 28 about six miles west of Belle. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Dodge Neon driven westbound by 30-year old Zachary Ellis of Salem, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a telephone pole and a fence, overturned, and came to rest in a field. Ellis suffered serious injuries and was flown to the University Medical Center in Columbia. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Neon was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Cooks Towing of Belle.

The last fundraiser for the 2009 Project Graduation will be held Monday at the Pizza Inn where you can dine with “royalty.” From 5:00 to 8:00, you can have dinner with Miss Dent County and other local “royalty.” Bring your camera and get a picture of yourself or your family with “royalty” during this fundraiser. Project Graduation is a drug and alcohol free graduation night celebration for the 2009 senior class.

Louis Carroll hit two home runs and Grant Gordon went 4-4 with a home run as the Salem Tigers outlasted the Thayer Bobcats by the score of 12-6. With the game tied at 6-6, Gordon’s single in the 6^th inning broke the tie and Salem never looked back. Gordon finished with four RBI and Carroll ended up with 3 RBI. Ashton Karr also drove in two runs for Salem coming off their 15-0 win at Willow Springs Wednesday. Salem is now 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in the SCA. They will hold their baseball tournament this weekend starting today at 4:00.

The Salem Golf Team finished 4th out of 5 on Thursday at Wedgewood Golf Course in Cabool on Thursday. The top four golfers for Salem were Connor Stroburg with a 44, Robbie Brooks shot a 50, C.J. Davison finished with a 50, and Branden Piatt shot a 51. Salem will be at Mountain Grove on Monday.

Chris Duncan had three hits, including a two- run homer, driving in three runs, as St. Louis got by division rival Chicago, 7-4, in the opener of a four-game set from Wrigley Field. Brian Barden had three hits, among them a solo home run, while Khalil Greene also homered in the win for St. Louis, which has started the season with eight wins in the first 11 games. Adam Wainwright (2-0) gave up six hits and four runs, walking four and recording six strikeouts over six frames to earn the win. Ryan Franklin picked up his second save in as many opportunities, fanning two in a perfect ninth. Kyle McClellan hurled two perfect frames as the bridge to Franklin. The Cards and Cubs play again today at 1:10 on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday and will be on the road at Texas to face the Rangers this weekend.

Kansas City Royals have placed third baseman Alex Gordon on the 15-day disabled lis and recalled outfielder Mitch Maier from Omaha (PCL).

The St. Louis Blues will face the Vancouver Canucks tonight in Game 2 of the Western Division Quarterfinal best-of-seven series. The Blues dropped a 2-1 decision on Wednesday night. The Blues will then come home for Games 3 and 4 on Sunday and Tuesday nights respectively. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

John Madden is retiring from the booth. The 73-year-old announcer and former coach issued a statement on Thursday saying that it was his time to hang up the mic. Prior to his career as an analyst, Madden compiled a 103-32-7 as a head coach with the Raiders for 10 seasons, winning Super Bowl XI in 1976. His winning percentage of .750 is the best of all-time. He retired from the coaching ranks after the 1978 season, joining the broadcast booth immediately after. Madden is the only person to serve as an analyst for all four major networks (CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC).

Funeral services for Glen Lavern Bays of Viburnum, age 70,will be held today at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Viburnum. Interment will be in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery.

Funeral services for Willis Franklin Pierce, Sr. of Rolla, age 99, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the family of Willis Pierce, Sr.
