The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving thefts and burglaries. On April 8
th at 6:30 in the evening, the department received a report of a burglary that had occurred at a residence located off of Dent County Road 3260. Reported taken were a Harley Davidson front and rear wheel with Avon ties mounted on each. On April 11
th at 11:40 in the morning, the department received a report of a 7-foot cedar log inscribed with the name “Schafer” that had been stolen from a residence located off of County Road 3220. On April 15
th at 2:00 in the afternoon, the department received a report of 45 gallons of red diesel fuel that had been taken from a skidder located at property off of Dent County Road 2020. Later the same afternoon at 6:20, the department received a report of a burglary that had occurred a residence located off of Dent County Road 2140. Reported taken were 300-feet of “O” direct burial copper wire. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.
Several teams of students representing the Salem High School, Salem FFA Chapter and Ag Education Department that recently competed in Career Development Events (CDE's) in Rolla and qualified to go on to the State FFA Competition will be in Columbia at the University of Missouri campus today and tomorrow. The Livestock Judging Team, Poultry Judging Team, Ag Sales Team, Parliamentary Procedure Team, and FFA Knowledge Team will all proceed to the state competitions. Selected for the State FFA Choir were Julianna Bermudez, Meagan Greenshields and Colton Malott. Scheduled to receive their State FFA degrees are Zachery Moser, Sara Privett and James Wells. The Beginning Ownership Record Book done by Lane Howard and the Beginning Placement Record Book done by Ashley Greenshields will be on display at the State competition and each of them will be receiving a State Leadership Medal. Also the Chapter Scrap Book, which won 1st place in the Area 13 competition, done by Amanda Fuller will also be on display.
The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the Senior High Library beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting will begin with the re-organization of the Board. Vice-President Greg Stephens will call the meeting to order and there will be the certification of the election results. Superintendent Steve Bryant will swear in the newly elected members and then act as temporary chairman to select the new board president. The new board president will then reside over the election of a new vice president and secretary-treasurer before the regular meeting gets underway. After the approval of the minutes from the March meeting, bills, the attendance report and food services reports will be communications. Bryant will then update the Board on legislative issues; report on the MASA meeting and the MSBA regional meeting. The co-operating school districts (CSD) purchasing will be discussed during old business. In new business, the Board will discuss the CIA-scoring of quarterly assessments, health insurance rates, approve the meal prices for the 2008-2009 school year and discuss the building projects schedule and bond issue items. The Board will also hear several program evaluations, discuss the transportation request from Project Graduation Committee, hear resignations, discuss the student accident insurance, approve Bank bids and the embedded credit for RTI/RTC students. The Board will then adjourn and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel and discipline. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

Currently over 45 businesses have signed up and will be displaying as well as demonstrating a variety of services and products that are available. The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Ava Bears in SCA play starting at 4:30 today. Salem enters the game with a 4-1 record and 2-1 in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at www.ksmoradio.com.
The Salem Tiger Track Teams will participate in the Mountain Grove Relays today at 2:30 while the Salem Tiger Tennis Team will be at Waynesville at 4:00.
Adam Wainwright hurled 7 2/3 innings and surrendered just two runs and even belted a home run, and the St. Louis Cardinals held off a late push by the Milwaukee Brewers to cling to a 5-4 victory. Wainwright (2-1) did everything he could for the Cardinals in earning the win, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six. Jason Isringhausen notched his league-leading sixth save, but not before drama ensued, giving up a pair of runs on three hits. Albert Pujols knocked in two runs for St. Louis. Skip Schumaker hit 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored, and Chris Duncan also crossed the plate twice. Yadier Molina finished 2-for-4 with a run batted in. The Cards and Brewers will play at noon today on KSMO Radio.
Gil Meche hurled six solid innings and the bullpen did the rest as Kansas City edged the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 3-2, in the opener of a brief two-game set. Meche (1-2) allowed just two runs on six hits for the Royals, who have won six straight games over the Angels. Ramon Ramirez, Jimmy Gobble, Leo Nunez and Joakim Soria combined for three scoreless innings of relief to finish things. Billy Butler and Alex Gordon each drove in a run for Kansas City, which has won three of four games overall. The two teams will play again tonight in Anaheim.

Funeral services for Thomas J. O’Keefe of Rolla, age 72, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Church, the Metallurgy Department of Missouri S&T, or the Order of the Cardinal Mercier Educational Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
Funeral services for Elva Lucinda Wedding of Rolla, age 81, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.
Funeral services and visitation for Elberta H. Volner of Branson, formerly of Forsyth, age 84, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services for Eva Jo Bradford of Rolla, age 72, will be held at a later date and are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
Funeral services for Edmond R. Barga of Rolla, age 63, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
Funeral services for Roy T. Charles of Rolla, age 85, are incomplete at this time. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
