The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, April 4^th at 10:00 in the evening, an officer was contacted in reference to a lost or stolen license plate. The investigation revealed that someone took a license plate from a trailer that was parked near the 200 block of West Rolla. On Sunday, April 6^th at 7:57 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1000 block of South Oak in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem female had entered a residence through a window and took items, valued at $2,460. She was located, apprehended for burglary and stealing, and incarcerated pending an application for a warrant. On Monday, April 7^th at 12:21 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Rolla male for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later that morning at 10:42, an officer contacted a 28-year old Salem female at the station who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem and Dent County. She was taken into custody and released with a new court date after posting bond. Later that morning at 11:11, an officer was dispatched to the Mobil convenience store located at Highway 19 and 32 in reference to someone that had come in with an open container of alcohol. The investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year old Cape Girardeau male for an open container and stealing merchandise valued at $3.82. He was issued two summonses to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Tuesday, April 8^th at 1:52 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of South Henderson in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a starter, valued ay $90, off of an 8N Ford tractor.  On Wednesday, April 9^th at 8:20 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem High School in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 14-year old Salem female juvenile had assaulted a 15-year old Salem male.  She was detained for assault and released to her mother. Young hunters checked 4,332 turkeys during Missouri’s youth turkey hunting season April 12^th and 13^th, topping the 4,000 mark for the second time in the youth season’s 14-year history. Top counties in the youth season were Franklin with 107 birds checked, Cedar with 96, and Webster with 92. The Missouri Department of Conservation recorded one nonfatal hunting incident during the weekend hunt. Conservation Department Resource Scientist Jason Isabelle says the strong youth season harvest can be attributed partly to the carry-over of adult gobblers resulting from good turkey reproduction in 2011 and 2012. Favorable weather throughout much of the state during the mornings of the hunt also helped. Missouri’s only other 4,000-plus youth season harvest was in 2012, when young hunters checked 4,319 turkeys. Hunters age 6 through 15 are allowed to take one male turkey or turkey with a visible beard during the youth hunt. Those who do take a turkey during the youth hunt may not take a second bird until the second week of the regular spring turkey season. The 2014 regular spring turkey season runs April 21^st through May 11^th.

The City of Salem Annual Water Quality Report has been released and there were no violations that occurred for the calendar year 2013. All levels of contaminants found were lower than required by government regulations. Missouri’s sixth annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax holiday, which provides shoppers in Missouri with the opportunity to save on energy-efficient appliances begins Saturday, April 19^th and runs through Friday, April 25^th. Shoppers who purchase new energy star qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday will not have to pay the 4.225 percent state sales tax. Examples of ENERGY STAR labeled appliances that qualify for the sales tax exemption are: clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps. Many local government entities have also opted to participate in the holiday, which means qualified purchases in those areas will be exempt not just from the state sales tax, but also from city, county and special district sales taxes. Twelve counties, 53 cities and 18 special districts have opted to participate in the holiday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol released their arrest reports for Dent County. On Saturday, April 12^th at 3:30 in the afternoon, 30-year old Herbert Bartlett of Salem was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant Dent County for probation violation. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on bond. On Tuesday, April 15^th at 5:45 in the evening, 29-year old Nichole Littrell of Salem was arrested on two misdemeanor Houston Police warrants for shoplifting and a misdemeanor Salem Police warrant for trespassing. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on Bond. At 5:50 that evening, 32-year old Justin Calbreath of Salem was arrested on five Franklin County warrants for traffic violations. He was taken to the Dent County Jail.

The final showings of the 2014 Easter Pageant will be held this Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem, located at 201 North MacArthur. This is a 90-minute dramatic musical production that includes a 72-voice choir and 85 cast members in authentic costumes on a realistic set. Interpretation is provided for the deaf and a nursery is provided for children ages 3 and younger. Everyone is welcome to attend.
