Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott combined to make 29 saves and the St. Louis Blues took a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series. Halak stopped 12 shots and Elliott made 17 saves for just the third combined shutout in playoff history. Vladimir Sobotka and David Backes each scored for the Blues, who evened this best-of-seven series after dropping Game 1. Game 3 will be in San Jose tonight at 9:00 and you can hear it on KSMO Radio.
Matt Carpenter finished 4-for-4 with five runs batted in and a run scored to lift the Cardinals to a 10-3 victory over the Cubs in the finale of a 3 game set on Sunday. Carpenter hit his first Major League home run in the fifth inning, while Yadier Molina added a three-run home run. Jake Westbrook (2-0) tossed seven innings of four-hit ball and allowed just two runs, while striking out two. The Cards have the day off today.
Shelley Duncan blasted a three-run homer as the Cleveland Indians pounded out 15 hits in a 13-7 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Chris Getz went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Brayan Pena had four hits and an RBI for the Royals. Luis Mendoza (0-2) was rocked for nine runs, five earned, on nine hits and four walks in four-plus innings. The Royals start a series with the Detroit Tigers tonight.
