The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, April 4^th at 9:50 in the morning, firefighters responded to a call on Truman Street for a medical assist. A total of three firefighters assisted the Salem ambulance with a male patient with a possible stroke by providing first aid and checking for injuries. The scene was under control at 10:15 a.m. On Thursday, April 8^th at 3:10 in the afternoon, firefighters responded to a call for a brush and grass fire on Route W. A total of eight firefighters responded to the call and had the scene under control at 4:47 p.m. On Friday, April 9^th at 8:43 in the morning, a call came in for a building fire on County Road 5130. A total of eight firefighters responded to the call and had the scene under control at 10:43 a.m. Later that morning at 11:41 a.m., a total of nine firefighters went back to the residence on County Road 5130 due to a rekindle fire. The scene was under control at 12:33 p.m. On Sunday, April 11^th at 3:45 in the morning, the district was called for a search and rescue at the Boss Residential Care. Five firefighters arrived on the scene, briefed on the situation and were told the subject was found on Route F by the Salem Police Department. At 12:58 that afternoon, a call came in for a brush and grass fire mixture on Dent County Road 3233. A total of seven firefighters responded and the fire was under control at 1:22. A call came in at 3:15 that same afternoon for a vegetation fire on Dent County Road 6180. A total of eight firefighters responded and had the fire under control at 3:33 pm. The Dent County Fire Protection District got a call at 5:51 later that afternoon on Highway 19 South. A total of seven firefighters responded to extricate an occupant found stuck in his wheel chair inside a van. The scene was under control at 6:30 pm. Then at 6:33 that same evening, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a call regarding a fire on Dent County Road 6180. Upon arrival, seven firefighters found the wildland control fire under control.

The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse.  A woman who has property that borders Dent County Road 3080 was in to tell the commission how bad the roads are in their neighborhood including Dent County Road 3090, 3080 and 3100. She said that people have been adding their own gravel to make it passable, and that she and her husband travel seven miles out of the way to avoid the roads because they are so bad. Commissioner Larson said that the winter has taken its toll on all the roads but he would take a look at them and move them up in priority if they are that bad. Deloris Gray Wood was in attendance to update the commissioners on the program to be held on April 25^th at the courthouse lawn to celebrate the 140^th birthday of the courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4080 and 6505, while rock would be added and grading will be done on Dent County Road 6490. Rock is also going to be added to Dent County Road 5440, and brush is going to be cut on Dent County Road 4080 and 4100.  District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that rock would be added and grading is going to be done on Dent County Roads 2520, 2530 and 4020. Rock is also going to be added to Dent County Road 5335. Grading is going to be done on Dent County Roads 2570, 3350 and 4437.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a Solid Waste Management District Executive Council meeting and said that the grant application packet had been approved and that if someone has a recycling project, they should apply. He said that recycling bins for schools are also available. He also discussed the tour with the National Park Service on Wednesday and said that the commission has couple of weeks to formulate a letter if they wish to address any of the areas that the NPS proposes closing to vehicular traffic. He said that the sales tax revenues for the county are up $7,730 over last year’s figures at this time, but are down $4,000 from the 2008 figure. He also wanted to remind everyone that the quarterly meeting of the commissioners would be held Monday night at 7:00 at the judicial building courtroom. At the last meeting, Sheriff Rick Stalling and Joe Weber with GSM came in to discuss meeting in May or June to discuss funding options, and the commission voted to accept bids for chip and seal for 2010. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
