The City of Salem Clean-Up Weeks will start today and last through April 26th and will run on your regular pick up day. This means you can place as much household trash as you need to curbside. The Clean-Up weeks also gives you the opportunity to get rid of larger items as well such as old appliances, old Bar-B-Q grills, old sofas, broken exercise equipment, old mattresses, etc. Those larger items will be picked up by city work crews and should not be co-mingled with the household trash, but should also be placed curbside. Remember, you CANNOT dispose of cans of paint that still have paint in them, oil, tires, and car batteries. These items have to be taken to special “haz-mat” collections or to the Rolla Recycling Center by appointment. City Administrator Clayton Lucas also said that because of the storm Wednesday night, the city would be picking up branches, limbs and debris bags that are placed curbside. Again, place these items separate of the other trash items that you are placing curbside. Every effort should be made to bundle your limbs and branches according to the city codes that state they should be no larger than four feet in length, and debris such as leaves, twigs and grass clippings should be placed in the biodegradable bags available at the City Administrative Offices. Those bags are packaged 10 for $2.50. For more information, feel free to call the City Administrative Offices at 729-4117.
