The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that rock was going to be added and grading was going to be done to Dent County Roads 6210 and 6500, and grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 5220. Purcell also said that brush would be cut on county road 4210. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that rock is going to be added and grading was going to be done to Dent County Roads 2530, 2540, 2550 and 3370. Grading is going to be done on Dent County Road 4010 and a pipe will be installed on Dent County Road 3370. One worker is also going to go to Springfield to get oil for the Durapatcher. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported from the TAC meeting last Thursday and said that MoDOT has informed the counties that they are having a hiring freeze and there will be less mowing and trash pickup this year on the highways. At the MRPC meeting, the board approved the formation of the Board of Directors of the Regional Foundation through the MRPC. The board will comprise of one representative from each county, two MRPC board members and the Director of the MRPC. He will be attending a solid waste management meeting today and he will be meeting with the National Park Service Wednesday morning at Montauk with the other commissioners to check out the traces and trails that they want to close off to vehicular traffic. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley is in Jefferson City at the MAC meeting. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.   

A special meeting of the Salem Board of Aldermen was held to discuss a memorandum of understanding with Pro Energy to look further into using Bio-Mass to create electricity in Salem. There were some changes made in the original memorandum from City Attorney Nanci Wisdom that included an escalating and de-escalating price, the possibility of outside consulting costs that would be bore by Pro Energy, the confidentiality agreement would need to conform to the sunshine law and that the contact person would be Mayor Gary Brown. The memorandum of understanding is non-binding and says that the city is willing to work with Pro Energy to explore generating electricity through Bio-Mass. The board approved the memorandum of understanding and discussed Bill #3195 that would allow the city to adopt the memorandum. This allows the city and company to see if it is feasible to put a plant within the city limits of Salem as Pro Energy would have to do an in-depth study that could cost as much as $250,000 to $300,000 to see if Salem is the right location. They already feel that the area has enough timber to support the project long-term, and that leftover products from the current timber industry could also be used in the process. The city has already looked into the water needs of the plant and would not drill into the water table used by people and the city for their drinking water. They would drill into the next water table that according to geologists is about 900 to 1,000 feet deep. If the plant is built and produces more than enough electricity for the Salem area, some of the electric could be sold to the electric grid that could offset the costs of having to purchase electricity when maintenance to the Bio-Mass would need to be done. The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct a re-organizational meeting at the district administrative offices boardroom tonight beginning at 6:00 pm. After the call to order, the election results will be certified. Newly elected Board members will be sworn in and then Assistant Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will then act as temporary chairman during the selection of a new Board president. The newly elected Board president will then preside over the election of a Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Board will then address resignations and then vote to go into Executive Session. In Executive Session the Board will address personnel. The re-organizational meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.
