An accident occurred 8:53 Friday night in Phelps County on I-44 in St. James that took the life of a St. James man. According to the highway patrol report, A 2005 Ford E-250 Budget Rental Truck driven by 21-year old Jonathon Drew of Rolla was westbound when a pedestrian, 29-year old Robert Scheider of St. James, entered the roadway and into the path of the truck. Scheider was pronounced dead at the scene by Phelps County Coroner Larry Swinfard and was transported to James and Gahr Funeral Home in St. James. Jonathon Drew was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford E-250 Budget Rental Truck sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by C & C Towing.

An accident occurred at 11:00 Friday night in Dent County at Route VV and Highway 119 in Montauk. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Dodge Caravan driven by 18- year old Andrea Nunnick of Salem ran off the right side of the road and struck a ditch. Nunnick suffered no injuries, but an occupant in the vehicle, 20-year old Skarlett Ritchart of Salem, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem hospital. Ritchart was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Caravan sustained minor damage and no tow was required.

An accident occurred at 3:43 Friday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 32 about eight miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet driven by 19 year-old Caleashia Hubbs of Salem was traveling around a curve and started sliding across the centerline and traveled into the path of a 2005 Peterbilt tractor and trailer unit driven by 41 year-old Billy Langston of Farmington. The Chevrolet struck the tractor-trailer in the left front. Hubbs suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The Chevrolet and Peterbilt tractor and trailer unit sustained extensive damage and were removed from the scene by Whitakers Towing of Salem.

An accident happened at 4:50 Sunday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 8 about four miles east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1975 Dodge car driven eastbound by 21-year old Thomas M. Lewis of Steelville lost control of car and it crossed the centerline and struck a 1997 Plymouth heading westbound nearly head-on. The Plymouth was driven by 32-year old Kevin A. Powell of Bolivar and included his family as passengers. Lewis suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Powell and his wife, 29-year old Candace Powell, suffered moderate injuries; and their newborn daughter Noel Powell suffered minor injuries. All three were taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by ambulance. The Powells were all wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident while Lewis was not. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Miles Towing of Steelville.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft. On Monday, April 6th at 11:37 a.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen yard ornament.  The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a handmade birdhouse valued $25.00 from the yard of a residence in the 300 block of North Macarthur. On Tuesday, April 7th at 5:09 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 300 block of South Carty in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a green 20” Mongoose bicycle valued $79.99 from the yard of a residence. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Tiger Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Willow Springs today has been CANCELLED. The game will be made up Wednesday, April 15th at 3:00 at Willow Springs. Salem is 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA.

The Salem Golf Team finished 7th in their own tournament held on Friday with only Conner Stroburg breaking 100 as he shot a 92. Salem will be at Mountain View on Tuesday.

Right-hander Kyle Lohse tossed a complete game shutout, giving up only three hits to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 shutout of the Astros and complete a three-game sweep of Houston at Busch Stadium. Lohse (2-0), a former two-time double-digit winner in the American League with the Minnesota Twins, fanned four batters to improve his ERA to 1.13 on the season. Lohse was 3-0 in four starts against the Astros last season, allowing 21 hits and seven runs in 26 innings. Khalil Greene went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Cardinals. Ryan Ludwick and Chris Duncan also had an RBI. The Cardinals start a three-game set at Arizona starting tonight at 8:20 on KSMO.

John Buck went 3-for-4 with a homer and drove in three runs, as the Kansas City Royals scored three times in the eighth inning to edge the New York Yankees, 6-4, to salvage the rain-soaked finale of a three-game set from Kauffman Stadium. Alberto Callaspo went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who moved to 3-3 on the young season. Brayan Pena knocked in the other run for Kansas City. Gil Meche lasted seven innings and gave up four runs on six hits, while fanning six in the no-decision. Juan Cruz (1-0) got the win after throwing a perfect eighth and Joakim Soria earned his third save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth. Kansas City will host Cleveland tonight.

Chris Mason made 28 saves for his sixth shutout of the season, and the St. Louis Blues claimed the Western Conference's sixth seed with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche after clinching a playoff spot Friday night by beating Columbus, 3-1.  Brad Boyes scored the game's only goal, as the Blues (41-31-10) finished the season on a three-game winning streak to vault into sixth place, setting up a Western Conference quarterfinal matchup with the Northwest Division-champion Vancouver Canucks.

No funeral services will be held for Everett Eugene Plank of Salem, age 82, in honor of his wishes. All arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Sandra Marie Clinton of Salem, age 53, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Anna Salemie of Ridgedale, age 87, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Point Lookout Nursing Home Patient Fund.

Funeral services for Christopher Polk of Springfield, formerly of Salem, age 26, Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cart Cemetery in Dent County with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Christopher Robert Polk memorial fund at Town & Country Bank with proceeds going to the Salem High School Marching Band.

Memorial services for Joe Eldon Adams of Salem, age 58, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Memorials may be made to Myrtle Adams for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Robbie Scheider of St. James, age 29, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery in rural Phelps County. Memorials may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
