The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that workers were removing a downed tree and debris on Dent County Road 6080 from the storm Wednesday night. He stated that workers were checking roads for any washouts or other downed trees. Purcell indicated that a worker was also working on the lights on a pup trailer. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that crews were out cleaning up debris from the storm as well as checking roads for washouts. He said that he was informed that several large trees were reported down across Dent County Road 2240. That was verified from a report from the Dent County Emergency Management Office to the National Weather Service. The report also said that there was some roof and deck damage reported to a home in that area. Larson also said that Grader 31 will receive a full servicing that takes a couple of days. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the South Central Comuntiy Action Agency conference call and meeting he reported on Monday will actually be held next week. He did say that he would not be at the Commission meeting Monday as he will be in Jefferson City at a CCAM meeting that morning and then he would stay for the CCAM legislative conference. He did want to thank all the spotters and volunteer fire department personnel for their work Wednesday night with the storm. Skiles did indicate that a “full scale” exercise for a Haz-Mat response to a “meth lab” hosted by Osage County will be held later this year. This was announced at the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting held this week. He also reported that SACBA is finalizing all the necessary paperwork for the paving project at the Farmer’s Market and they are preparing for the opening of the Farmer’s Market on May 4th. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor and Assistant Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas made a presentation to the commission about the effects of the state not electing to expand the Medicaid coverage in the state. He said that 66% of the Medicaid budget goes to the elderly and disabled which makes up 28% of the people served. The other 34% goes to adults and children which makes up the other 72% of  people Medicaid serves. Pryor said that the state hospitals contribute over one billion dollars to the state through their FRA tax and that goes to Medicaid while the state only contributes 22 million to that same fund. Pryor said that with the Sequestration cut, plus other Medicare cuts to agencies in the hospital that are not critical access, and if the legislation fails to expand Medicaid, the hospital will lose over three million dollars over the next seven years. Pryor stated that the expansion would include about 900 people in the Dent County area that currently do not qualify for Medicaid. At the last meeting, Lisa Blackwell, the advocate from the Dent County Women’s Crisis Center, asked if she could place flags on the courthouse lawn and a banner on the gazebo in recognition of April being Sexual Assualt Month. The commission approved the request. Doug Barnes with Town and Country Bank brought in the agreement on the financing of the two graders purchased from Fabick & Co and they were signed by the commissioners. Commissioner Larson also indicated that he would like the commissioners to make a decision on the petition for the county to vacate Dent County Road 2230 on Thursday, April 18th at 10:00 in the morning. The next meeting of the county commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
