With the youth turkey season in the rear-view mirror and the regular, three-week season coming up fast, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds hunters they can create lasting memories with the First Turkey Award. The First Turkey Program provides free commemorative certificates suitable for framing. You can even add a photo of the proud hunter with his or her bird. Creating a tangible reminder of a once-in-a-lifetime experience begins with visiting mdc.mo.gov/node/10469. The same site has forms for a hunter’s first turkey or deer, for youths or adults. The parallel program for anglers is the First Fish Program. The First-Fish Award form is available at mdc.mo.gov/node/10474.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the end of March. On Tuesday, March 27^th at 9:39 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  The investigation revealed that a 21-year old Salem male had stolen a chainsaw valued at $399 from a truck parked in the 200 block of South Warfel. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Wednesday, March 28^th at 12:02 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to the Mobil Convenience Store in reference to a disturbance.  The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, March 29^th at 12:15 in the early morning, an officer transported an 18-year old Salem female to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Friday, March 30^th in the early morning, an officer made contact with a 26-year old Salem male who had an active warrant from Phelps County. He was taken into custody near the 300 block of West Roosevelt and incarcerated pending extradition. On Saturday, March 31^st at 2:29 in the early morning, an officer stopped a suspicious vehicle in the Salem City Park after hours. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 21-year old female of Jefferson City for possession of marijuana, supplying intoxicants to a minor, and an open container. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same day noon, an officer made contact with a 32-year old Salem male who had 2 active warrants from the City of Salem. Missourians and out-of-state consumers shopping in Missouri will be able to benefit from Missouri’s fourth annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday, which runs from Thursday, April 19^th, through Wednesday, April 25^th. People who purchase new ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday will save a minimum of 4.225 percent off their purchase. The reduced price represents the elimination of the state’s sales tax from the purchase. ENERGY STAR®-labeled appliances that qualify for the sales tax exemption are: clothes washers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioner and heat pumps. Eleven counties, 47 cities and 16 special districts have opted to participate in the holiday. The City of Salem and Dent County WILL NOT be participating in the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.
