The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance as he was attending two meetings in Jefferson City. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell acted as Presiding Commissioner for the meeting. In District 1, brush is going to be cut on Dent County Road 6220. Commissioners Gary Larson and Purcell said that workers in both districts would be checking the roads for washouts and stopped up culverts, as well as looking for downed trees and limbs. Purcell was also going to be attending the MoBroadbandNow meeting at the MRPC offices in St. James to discuss developing a strategic plan to meet local and regional broadband needs. The initiative of the group is to have broadband access to 95% of Missouri residents by 2014. He said he would give his report on the meeting at the next commissioner meeting which is scheduled for Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department have released a number of reports. On Monday, April 4^th at 8:45 at night, a 23-year-old female of Salem was transported to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Tuesday afternoon, April 5^th at 1:00, an officer was detailed to the Green County Sheriff’s Department in reference to an 18-year-old male of Springfield being held on a City of Salem warrant. He was transported to the Dent County Jail and was incarcerated. On Wednesday, April 6^th at 2:31 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to South Maple Street and a residence in the 700 block of East Highway 32 in reference to burglaries at both locations. The investigation of the reports revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the two residences and took jewelry, tools, and miscellaneous items of value. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old male of Salem in connection with the two burglaries. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. The names have been drawn for the winners of the 2011 Business Expo drawings at the KSMO Radio booth for Cardinal tickets and tickets to the Great Passion Play. Becky Gibbs won two tickets to a Cardinals game, Jim Boulware also won two tickets to a Cardinal game and Freda Clark won six tickets to the Great Passion Play. The Dent County Fire Protection District has released their reports. On Sunday, April 3^rd at 4:54 in the afternoon, ten firefighters were dispatched to Highway 32 West and Highway F but were cancelled en route. All units were back at the station at 5:12. Later that night at 9:57, eight firefighters were sent to South Jackson Street to assist the EMS crew. They provided manpower and were back at the station at 10:14. On Monday, April 4^th at 4:57 in the afternoon, seven firefighters were dispatched to Highway 32 near County Road 4200 to assist the police. They controlled traffic and were back at the station at 7:20. Later that night at 10:42, four firefighters performed an aircraft standby at the station and were done at 12:14 the next morning. On Tuesday, April 5^th at 1:53 in the morning, three firefighters were dispatched to do an aircraft standby at the station. They provided manpower at the landing zone and were done at 2:50. Later that day at 12:37 in the afternoon, four firefighters were dispatched to West Roosevelt Street to assist the EMS Crew. They performed emergency medical services and were back at the station at 1:20. A little later that afternoon at 12:48, four firefighters were dispatched to North Highway 19 to perform an aircraft standby. They provided manpower at the landing zone for two helicopters and were back at the station at 1:51.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their re-organizational meeting Monday evening at the district administrative offices. At the meeting, the board elected new officers. Elected President was Chris Heavin with Clifton Parker being elected Vice-President. Elected Secretary was Carrie Snyder with Bernie Sirois elected Treasurer. After the distribution and discussion on Board ethics, the board revised the budget due to the purchase of 50 Promethian Boards. A total of $120,000 will be moved from the General Revenue Funds to the Capital Projects Fund with $30,000 coming from each school from supplies to their equipment budgets. The board approved the budget revision. The board also approved moving the school board meetings back to the third Thursday of the month rather than the fourth Thursday starting this month. The board accepted the retirement of Mary Lincoln, a para-professional from the Upper Elementary School. They also elected their MSBA delegate and alternate and they were Carrie Snyder as the delegate and Bernie Sirois as the alternate. The board then went into closed session to discuss personnel.

The Salem Baseball Tigers were scheduled to face the Cabool Bulldogs Monday and the game was cancelled due to wet conditions. That game has been rescheduled for this afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem High School Baseball Complex. Salem enters the game with a 5-3 record and 2-0 in the SCA. The Salem Track Teams will host the Salem Invitational today starting at 3:00.

Salem finished fourth out of fourteen Monday at the Seymour Tournament played at Marshfield Country Club shooting a 366. Ben Adams for Salem medaled with an 85, which tied him for 8th overall. Connor Stroburg medaled shooting an 88, which tied him for 13th overall. The Tiger Golf Team will be at the Tiger Classic on Wednesday at St. James.

Lance Berkman blasted two home runs while Jon Jay had a pinch-hit homer in St. Louis' 8-2 win over Arizona to start a three- game series. Kyle McClellan (1-0) did it from the mound and in the batter's box where he went six innings and also knocked in two runs for the Cardinals. The starting pitcher allowed one run on seven hits with four strikeouts while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. The Cards and Arizona Diamondbacks play again tonight at 8:05 on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday and they will face Minnesota tonight to start a three game series.
