A Special Meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman will be held at the City Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington today beginning at 1:00 pm. After approval of a memorandum of understanding with Proenergy Services, LLC, Bill #3195, which is an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to execute a non-binding memorandum of understanding between the City of Salem and Proenergy Services, LLC for the purpose of exploring placing an electric power plant in Salem using wood products will be addressed. The Special Meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
An accident occurred at 9:45 Thursday evening in Dent County on Franklin Street at Sligo Street. According to the highway patrol report, a 1989 Toyota pickup driven by 17-year old Darick Green of Salem was traveling eastbound and struck a parked 1998 International 4700. Green suffered minor injury and sought his own treatment. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Toyota sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. The International sustained minor damage and was left at the scene.
The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a burglary, accidents, a pedestrian hit by a vehicle and a domestic disturbance. On Thursday, April 1st at 3:30 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Carty in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the residence and took 2 TV’s, DVD’s, a cell phone and a checkbook, valued at a total of $1700.00. The suspects were driving a red Chevy car. On Friday, April 2nd at 12:05 p.m. an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a leaving the scene of an accident. The report revealed that an unknown vehicle struck a 2002 GMC, Z-71 pickup and left the scene. At 8:00 p.m. that same evening, officers responded to Highway 19 and Franklin Street in reference to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle, which then left the scene. The investigation revealed that a 1999 Nissan struck a 56-year old Salem woman. The driver of the vehicle checked on the victim then left the scene. The driver, a 27-year-old Salem man, later arrived back at the Salem Police Department. The victim was transported to Salem Memorial Hospital via ambulance. The suspect was released pending the issuance of a warrant for leaving the scene of the accident. Later that same evening at 9:30 p.m. an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a leaving the scene of an accident report. The investigation revealed a 1993 Dodge Ram 150 had been parked on the parking lot of Wal-Mart and was struck by an unknown vehicle, which left the scene. Then at 10:00 p.m. that same night, an officer was sent to the 700 block of North Washington in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem man for domestic assault. He was incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary or the leaving the scene of an accident reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.
On Wednesday, April 7th, 45-year Old Larry Emory and his wife, 45-year old Bernice Emory were arrested at their home in Boss while in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine. Charges were filed on April 8th and both have been charged with the felony distribution, delivery, manufacturing and production or the attempt to possess with the intent to distribute, deliver or produce a controlled substance methamphetamine; the felony possession of a chemical with the intent to manufacture or create a controlled substance in the form of methamphetamine, and the felony possession of drug paraphernalia-amphetamine or methamphetamine. They are each being held on a $50,000 only cash bond in the Dent County Jail. They were originally arrested on a Phelps County warrant on Wednesday for failing to appear in a Phelps County Court for a probation violation.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be home to face the Willow Springs Bears in SCA play today at 4:30. You can hear the game on ksmoradio.com only due to the Cards game. If the Cards game ends early enough, KSMO will air the remainder of the Salem game. Salem enters the game with a 2-6 record and 0-2 in the SCA.
Casey McGehee clubbed the winning solo homer off Kyle McClellan with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Milwaukee, despite blowing a five-run lead, earned an 8-7 win over St. Louis. Trevor Hoffman blew a save opportunity for a second straight time, giving up a two-run homer to Albert Pujols in the ninth inning and then a tying blast from Matt Holliday, but the Brewers bounced back to avoid a three-game sweep. Pujols had a pair of two-run homers and has four round-trippers already this season, but the Cardinals lost for the second time. Dennys Reyes fanned Prince Fielder to start the bottom of the ninth, but McGehee got a hold of a 2-1 offering from McClellan (0-1) and homered to left to end the game. The Cardinals home opener will be today at 2:15 against Houston and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
Dustin Pedroia finished 4-for-5 with a home run to pace the Red Sox past the Royals, 8-6, in the rubber match of a three- game series at Kauffman Stadium. Jose Guillen blasted two home runs and ended with four RBI to lead the Royals, who fell to 2-4 on the season. Gil Meche (0-1), making his first start of the season after suffering a shoulder injury that landed him on the disabled list, lasted just 3 1/3 frames. He gave up seven runs on eight hits. The Royals start a three game set with the Detroit Tigers today
Martin Erat scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Nashville Predators closed out their regular season with a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues. In the second round, Erat skated in on net and put a wrister into the right corner. Brad Boyes was the last chance for St. Louis, but his shot rang off the post. David Backes had the only Blues goal and Ty Conklin made 35 stops for the Blues (40-32-10), who closed out their season by dropping two of their final three games.

A Funeral Mass for Marie Mabe of Steelville, age 87 will be held today at 11:00 at the St. Michael’s Church in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Funeral services for Elaine Taylor of Steelville, age 76, will be held Tuesday, April 13 at the First Baptist Church in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Internment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Steelville Youth and Children’s Ministries or the American Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service for Harold Bradford of Salem, age 84, will be held Thursday, April 15 at the James & Gahr Mortuary of Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. The Salem American Legion Post #99 will hold full Military honors. Memorials are suggested to the family for funeral expenses.
A Memorial Service for Louise A. Venn of Salem, age 76, will be held Saturday, May 1 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem. Internment will be private. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Animal Shelter.
A Memorial Service for John Wesley Taylor of Rolla, age 86, will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital or Phelps Regional Hospice. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
