The Salem Police Department has released a number of their reports. On Thursday, March 31st at 10:47 at night, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of North Rhodes Street in reference to a domestic assault. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 26 year-old male of Salem for burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, domestic assault, and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On Friday, April 1st at 7:30 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 42-year old female of Springfield for stealing merchandise valued at $143.55. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that night at 10:08, an officer was detailed to Pizza Hut in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation of the repot led to the arrest of a 35-year-old male and a 36-year-old male, both of Salem, for disorderly conduct. They were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. On Sunday, April 3rd at 4:24 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 61-year-old male of Salem, for driving while his license revoked. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct a Re-organizational meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the certification of election results, there will be the swearing in of the newly elected members of the Board by the Secretary of the Board. Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will then act as temporary chairman for the selection the new Board President and Vice President. The new Board President will then preside over the election of the Board Secretary and Treasurer. The Board will then consider some budget revisions, a change to Board policy BDA, a request from the FFA Alumni and address resignations. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session to discuss personnel. The Re-organizational meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public. 

An accident happened Saturday afternoon at 3:05 in Madison County on Highway 67 in Cherokee Pass that left four people with injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Plymouth driven eastbound by 27-year old Amber Lewis of Bixby, failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of a 2000 Mercury driven by 18-year old Whitney Kemp of Fredericktown that was heading northbound. After the collision, both vehicles traveled off the road and went down an embankment where both vehicles burned. An occupant in the Mercury, 40-year old Robert Berry of Fredericktown, suffered serious injuries and he was taken by ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Farmington. Suffering moderate injuries were Lewis and a passenger in the Plymouth, 41-year old Bruce Copeland of Bixby, and they were taken by ambulance to the Madison Medical Center in Fredericktown. Kemp suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Parkland Hospital by a private vehicle. Lewis and Copeland were not wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident while Berry and Kemp were. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Bakers Towing of Fredericktown.

An accident occurred on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:56 in the afternoon on East Third Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, Gary Pogue of Salem, who was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer 4x4 eastbound, recognized Bradley Beyer of Salem, who was driving a 2008 Benzhou scooter westbound, in the opposite lane. Pogue then intentionally swerved across the center of the street into the other lane. Beyer then started to avoid the Ford Explorer, began skidding, and made contact with the pavement. Pogue then swerved back into the eastbound lane missing the scooter. The Benzhou sustained moderate damage. Beyer suffered minor injuries but sought his own treatment.

Dent County Corner Gina White has announced the appointment of Scott Harris as Dent County Deputy Coroner. Harris will replace Eddie Wilson, who resigned effective April 1st. In Wilson’s letter addressed to the Dent County Commissioners, he stated that time restraints with serving as deputy coroner as the reason for his resignation. Wilson served as Dent County Coroner for 12 years and Deputy Coroner for 6 years.

The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to face the Cabool Bulldogs today at 4:30 at the Salem High School Baseball Complex. Salem enters the game with a 5-3 record and 2-0 in the SCA. The Salem Tiger Golf Team is scheduled to be at the Seymour Golf Tournament today starting at 9:00 this morning. The Salem Tiger Tennis Team is scheduled to be at Rolla this afternoon starting at 4:00. 

David Freese had three hits, including a solo home run, and knocked in three, as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Giants, 6-1, to avoid the three-game series sweep. Skip Schumaker had two hits and two RBI for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Kyle Lohse (1-1) was stunning in his second start of the season, going eight innings while allowing one run on five hits. The Cardinals will be in Phoenix tonight to face the Arizona Diamondbacks starting at 8:05 on KSMO.

Wilson Betemit went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to power the Kansas City Royals to a 9-5 win over the Detroit Tigers in the rubber match of a three-game series at Comerica Park. Chris Getz knocked in two runs for the Royals, who improved to 6-3 on the young season. Luke Hochevar (1-1) gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits and struck out six in seven innings. The Royals have the day off.

Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves to record his seventh shutout of the season, as the St. Louis Blues wrapped up their season with a 2-0 victory over the playoff-bound Nashville Predators Saturday night. Alexander Steen and T.J. Oshie scored for the Blues (38-33-11), who won three of four to end the year.

The University of Missouri has extended the contract of head football coach Gary Pinkel through the 2017 season. Pinkel had previously signed a seven-year deal that was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2015 campaign. The new extension does not affect Pinkel's guaranteed salary of $2.35 million, but contributes to his annuity and increases the salaries for his assistant coaches.

Funeral services for Ava Leora Vichman of Steelville, age 80, will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held Wednesday night from 4:00 to 8:00. Internment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gibbs Care Center Building Fund or the Steelville Food Pantry.
