The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, March 29th at 1:04 in the early morning, an officer made contact with a 34-year old Salem male in the 1100 block of South Highway 19 who had an active arrest warrant from Webster County. He was taken into custody and released with a new court date after posting bond. That evening at 6:48, an officer was detailed to the McDonalds restaurant in reference to damage to private property. The investigation revealed that a 17-year old Rolla male had damaged a light fixture on the outside of the building. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. At 10:00 that same night, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a necklace, valued at $2,000, from a residence in the 400 block of East Fourth Street. On Sunday, March 30th at 6:18 in the evening, an officer was contacted in reference to two 15-year old female juveniles that were missing. The juveniles were located and taken into custody at a residence in the 100 block of East First. They were released to Pathways and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. That evening at 7:20, an officer was conducting an investigation regarding a previously reported stolen laptop computer, valued at $1,200. The previous investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem female. The laptop computer was recovered and she was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Then at 7:21 that same night, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 400 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed at someone entered a residence and took $2,040 cash and a DVD movie valued at $25. On Monday, March 31st at 4:44 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Center in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took property valued at $1,000 and $75 cash. On Tuesday, April 1st at 7:40 in the evening, an officer was contacted in reference to damage to private property. The investigation revealed that someone cut two tires, valued at $240, on a green 2000 Jeep Cherokee. That same night at 10:00, an officer was contacted by the manager of Bigo's restaurant in reference to a customer that left without paying for a meal. The investigation revealed that a 19-year old Salem male had ordered food and beverages and tried to pay with an invalid credit card. He told the manager he would go get the money and return but did not. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody for stealing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any info regarding the theft, burglary, or property damage, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, is pleased to announce the following promotions that were effective Tuesday, April 1st. Sergeant Ronald A. Copeland transferred from Zone 7, Dent County, where he served as the zone commander, to Zone 10, where he will serve as a commercial vehicle enforcement trooper. On March 1st, 2002, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and designated as the zone commander of Zone 7. Sergeant Copeland is married to Denise (Curley) Copeland, and they have four children, Emma, Caleb, Cameron, and Zach. Corporal Robert G. May II, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and designated as the zone commander of Zone 7, Dent County. May is a native of Hutchison, Kansas, and a 1993 graduate of Lawson High School in Lawson, Missouri. May was appointed to the Missouri State Water Patrol on January 3rd, 1999. He was promoted to the rank of corporal on August 1st, 2008. May became a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 1st, 2011, after the merger with the Missouri State Water Patrol. Sergeant May is married to Andrea (Joerding) May, and they have one child, Robert G. May III.

Adam Ziske singled twice with two outs to drive in runs and Kyle Lea pitched seven strong innings as Salem held on to edge St. James Wednesday in St. James, 3-2. Lea allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out three, walking one and hitting a batter. He is 1-0 on the year. Lea also stroked two hits in the game including an RBI double. Jesse Hays of St. James had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run. Salem is now 1-4 on the year and they will host the Ava Bears today in their first SCA game of the year. Salem Tiger golf will host the Salem Invitational this morning at 9:00, while Salem Tiger tennis will be in Mountain View at 4:00. Salem track will be in Sullivan for a meet at 4:00 today.

Mike Leake tossed eight scoreless innings and the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-0, to avoid a three-game sweep. St. Louis starter Shelby Miller (0-2) gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out five over six full frames. The Cards have the day off today.

Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer to power the Kansas City Royals to a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Wednesday's rubber match of a three-game series. Gordon finished 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Royals, who have won four of six. Nori Aoki, Johnny Giavotella, and Billy Butler added an RBI apiece. Jeremy Guthrie (2-0) hurled a stellar seven frames, allowing a run on four hits, one walk and fanning four. The Royals have the day off today also.

The Kansas City Royals activated reliever Louis Coleman from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Coleman began the 2014 campaign on the DL with a bruised right middle finger. The right-hander was 3-0 with a minuscule 0.61 earned run average in 27 appearances for the Royals last season. The Royals also recalled second baseman Johnny Giavotella and optioned pitchers Donnie Joseph and Aaron Brooks to Triple-A Omaha.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Minnesota tonight to face the Wild at the Xcel Energy Center. The Blues are 52-20-7 on the year and have 111 points, three behind Boston for the lead in the NHL with three games left. Funeral services for Bonnie Mathes of Boss, age 75, will be held today at 1:00 at the Locust Grove United Baptist Church in Oates. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Myers Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Locust Grove United Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.

Memorial visitation for Elmer “Leon” Jones of Salem, age 86, will be held Saturday from 11:00 until 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Delbert Day Cancer Institute in Rolla.

Funeral services for Maxine N. Baird of Salem, age 84, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Hobson Community Church in Hobson. Visitation will be Friday night from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery in Hobson. Memorials may be made to the Carty Cemetery Fund.
