Brian Elliott registered his second shutout in as many games, while Alexander Steen netted the game's only goal late in the second period in the surging St. Louis Blues' 1-0 triumph over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Elliott, named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Monday after posting a 1.45 goals against average in three St. Louis wins, wasn't tested much in a 15-save performance against an injury-riddled Nashville squad. The Blues, on the other hand, have now ripped off a season-high five consecutive victories and further enhanced their chances of securing a berth in the upcoming Western Conference playoffs. The Blues will play the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Lance Lynn allowed just one run in six innings to help the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. Lynn (1-0) added 10 strikeouts and allowed just four hits and one walk for St. Louis, which evened this three-game series at one game apiece. Matt Adams gave the Cardinals the lead with a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the sixth inning. The Cardinals and Reds play the finale of their series this afternoon, and you can hear it on KSMO at 12:10.

The Royals scored five runs in the first inning and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins, 7-4, in an American League Central matchup on Tuesday. Alcides Escobar, Billy Butler, Mike Moustakas, Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer and Jeff Francoeur drove in a run apiece for the Royals, who saw Jeremy Guthrie (2-0) allow four runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
