The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that crews would be preparing the Cedar Grove Road for chip and seal and Dent County Road 419 for chip and seal, which is a cost share project, where the property owners on that route contribute to the cost. Simpson also said grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 565 and grading would be done on Dent County Road 643. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the White River Trace area on Dent County Roads 250, 251, 252, 253 and 254. Tune also said that brush would be cut and grading would be done various roads in the Waterfork area. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that Dent County has two vacancies on the Meramec Regional Development Corporation Board. Skiles also reported that on Thursday morning at 9:30 the Commission would be meeting with a representative from Geo-Com to discuss the counties options with rural addressing. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened on Sunday around 4:30 in the morning in Dent County on Rt. B about 7 miles southeast of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1985 Chevrolet driven by 43-year old Kenneth Rice of Bunker, traveled off the right side of the road, over corrected and lost control. The vehicle then overturned on the roadway. Suffering moderate injuries was Rice who was taken by the Salem Ambulance to the Salem Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was totaled in the accident and was taken by Whitakers Towing of Salem. Rice was cited for DWI, careless and imprudent driving, driving while his license revoked, no seatbelt, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is asking for the cooperation of the public regarding placement of private signs, including political campaign, yard sale, auction and other advertising signs, alongside the roads. State law prohibits this placement citing it as an encroachment upon the right-of-way of state highways. MoDOT's private sign removal policy is enforced statewide. According to MoDOT South Central District Engineer Tom Stehn, the highway department will work with sign owners to identify right-of-way boundaries upon request. MoDOT personnel will remove signs found to be on highway right-of-way and/or the sign owner will be notified the sign(s) must be removed. Removed signs are stored at the nearest MoDOT maintenance facility where owners who wish to pick them up may do so. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their April Membership Meeting on Wednesday, April 11^th at noon at the Salem TCRC. There will be a presentation on the Enhanced Enterprise Zone and Business Incentives with an update on the Town Hall meeting. There will also be a drawing for the “Prime Booth Locations” at the Business Expo. In a wild contest in Thayer, the Salem Tigers came from behind to beat the Bobcats, 15-7. Down 6-3 in the 4^th inning, Brandon Plank drilled a bases clearing double to tie the game. Later, Brad Lewis crushed his first homer of the year, a three-run shot, in the 6^th inning to give Salem some breathing room before a two-run double by Grant Gordon in the 7^th inning put the game out of reach. Matt Whitaker was 1-2 with three RBI while Lewis went 2-4 with 4 RBI for Salem. Grant Gordon relieved Matt Whitaker in the 4^th inning and got the win by allowing only two more hits, walking three and striking out 10. Salem improves to 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in the SCA and they will host Mountain View-Liberty on Thursday at 4:30.

Braden Looper pitched seven shutout innings to earn his first win as a starter and Preston Wilson drove in two runs with a pinch-hit double, as the St. Louis Cardinals spoiled Pittsburgh's home opener with a 3-0 victory over the Pirates at PNC Park. Scott Rolen singled in a run and Albert Pujols scored twice for the Cardinals. Looper (1-1), in only his second big league start after eight years of relief work, was brilliant. He limited the Pirates to a pair of hits with three walks and three strikeouts while throwing only 94 pitches. Tonight, the Cardinals will bring up pitcher Randy Keisler from Triple-A Memphis to make the start. Game time tonight is 6:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a problem with his pitching elbow. Carpenter learned after an MRI on Monday that he had arthritis and a previously undiscovered impingement in his right elbow. There was no evidence of acute ligament damage. He is expected to just rest over the next 10-14 days and be re-evaluated at that point.

A.J. Burnett and three relievers combined on a four-hitter and Vernon Wells homered as Toronto beat the Kansas City Royals 9-1 in the Blue Jays' home opener. Burnett (1-1) scattered three hits over 6 2/3 innings, struck out five and walked three for the Blue Jays, who have won three in a row. Kansas City starter Odalis Perez (0-2) was roughed up for four runs on seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings. Mike Sweeney had two of Kansas City's four hits and John Buck homered off Burnett for the Royals who will face the Blues Jays again tonight.

Funeral services for Linda Nunley of Bunker, age 54, will be held today at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Bunker City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Lorna Peters of St. James, age 90, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Beulah Mae Barwick of Rolla, age 88, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery in Licking.

Funeral services for Ray Brooks, formerly of St. Louis, age 77, will be held at 10:00 Thursday morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the West Fork/Sutterfield Cemetery in Bunker.

Services for Leonard “Len” James Davidson of Salem, age 89, will be held at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis at a date to be announced. There will be no visitation. Special military honors will be held at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the John Burch Society or the Nebraska Woods Medical Fund. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
