Cabool scored five runs in the 4th inning, three of them coming after an error, as the Salem Baseball Tigers lost thier fifth straight game, 5-2 to the Bulldogs. Ryan Smith and Andy Kissir each had two hits for the Tigers who are 2-6 on the year and 0-2 in the SCA. They will host Willow Springs Monday afternoon.
Willow Springs won the Salem Golf Invitational Tournament for the fourth year in a row on Thursday on a cool but beautiful day at the Spring Creek Golf Course. Salem finished a distant 7th in the tournament shooting a 397. The golf team will be at Mountain View Tuesday.
Jonny Gomes hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Cincinnati Reds got by the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1. Matt Holliday accounted for the Cardinals' only offense with a homer in the seventh inning and finished 2-for-4. Brad Penny threw seven effective innings in his Cardinals debut but did not factor in the allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. The Cards will play Milwaukee tonight at 6:50.
Miguel Cabrera blasted a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help the Detroit Tigers post a 7-3 victory over Kansas City. Scott Podsednik collected four hits for the Royals, while Jose Guillen, Billy Butler and Rick Ankiel each knocked in a run. Kansas City starter Brian Bannister was solid on the mound, allowing one run on six hits over six innings. Luis Mendoza (0-1) surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss. The Royals will face the Boston Red Sox this weekend.
The St. Louis Blues will finish up their season this weekend as they face the Anaheim Ducks tonight and then will be in Nashville tomorrow night. You can hear tomorrow night’s game on KSMO Radio at 7:00.
