Be sure and come out for the 2011 Business Expo sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, KSMO Radio and the Salem News on Saturday, April 9^th at the Salem High School Gym from 9:00 am to until noon. You will be able to learn about businesses around the area and what they have to offer their customers. A total of 49 vendors have signed up to participate in the expo. Some area businesses such as Wofford Brothers Plumbing & Services, Integrity Pest Solutions, Laura’s Corner Airbrush4U, the Missouri Loan Center, the Bank of Salem, Corporate Trustee Member, Seville Care Center, Town & Country Bank as well as others will be giving away varies items. The first 300 guests will receive a keepsake, reusable grocery bag which is sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, KSMO Radio and the Salem News, limit one per family please. Everyone is welcome to attend and if you can’t make it, KSMO radio will be broadcasting live from about 9:00 to 11:00. The Dent County Commissioners met on Thursday morning for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4150, 4155, 4157, 5600, 6280 and 6287. He also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6220, and that chip and seal roads would be patched in various locations. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 3130 and 4330, while rock was going to be added and grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2330 and 2340. Larson went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2120. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that on Monday morning, he would be attending a County Commission Association of Missouri Board meeting in Jefferson City, and then he would be attending a Missouri Association of Counties legislative update. Because of the two meetings, Skiles will not be at the Monday morning meeting. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the clerk’s office and treasurer office books balanced. She also said that the county’s insurance consortium meeting would be held next Wednesday in Springfield and the commissioners would be attending as well as Curley. The next commissioner meeting will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of March. During the month, they wrote nine equipment repair orders, 17 summons to appear in court, 27 warning tickets, and eight traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated nine accidents, two assaults, five burglaries, one report of child molestation, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, two reports of domestic violence, one report of an exparte violation, one report of a forgery, one report of fraudulent use of a credit/debit card, and two reports of leaving the scene of an accident. The department also investigated two reports of a lost or stolen plate, one report of a missing or runaway juvenile, one report of an open container, one report of a peace disturbance, five reports of property damage, 18 reports of stealing, one report of a vehicle towed, one report for trespassing and one 96-hour hold commitment. They also investigated one report of possession of marijuana and one report of possession of synthetic drugs. The police department received 1,576 calls for service during the month, handled 100 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 65 calls to the animal control officer. They spent five hours in court testifying, three hours as court bailiff and spent 36 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in March included 50 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, three calls for a prowler, two calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, three calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, eight calls for domestic disputes, one call for a wrecker, four 9-1-1 calls, three calls for a peace disturbance, nine calls for alarms sounding, one call for a fight in progress, five ambulance assist calls, one call for drag racing and/or speeding vehicles, and six fire calls. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,357 miles and arrested 16 males and 5 females during the month of March.

The Salem Tigers scored six unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 and beat the Houston Tigers in SCA play Thursday, 6-2. Ryan Smith doubled in two runs, while Aaron Shaw went 2-3 with an RBI and Brady Floyd also had two hits in the game. Floyd started the game and went five innings allowing two runs, three hits and three walks while striking out five. Salem is now 5-3 on the year and 2-0 in the SCA. They will host the Cabool Bulldogs Monday.

Salem finished third shooting a 378 on Thursday at the Salem Invitational Golf Tournament.  St. James won the meet with a low score of 356 and Cuba took second with a 374. Overall Medalist was David Abolt from Cuba with an even par 72 for the day. Salem Medalists included Connor Stroburg (5th) with an 82 and Ben Adams (7th) with a 91, Dylan Sisco (12th) with a 100, and Alan Benowitz (14th) finished with a 105. The Golf Team will be at Marshfield for the Seymour Tournament on Monday.

The St. Louis Cardinals were off Thursday and will be in San Francisco to face the Giants at 3:00 this afternoon. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Cardinals are 2-4 so far this year.

The Kansas City Royals were off yesterday and they will be back in action this weekend as they will be on the road in Detroit. Kansas City is 4-2 after their first home stand of the year.

The St. Louis Blues wrap up their 2010-2011 season Saturday night as they host Nashville at 7:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
