Hunters in northern Missouri can expect to see a few more jakes during the spring turkey season, and hunters statewide will have more mature gobblers to hunt this year. Otherwise, the 2011 spring turkey-hunting forecast from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) looks a lot like those for the past few years. Missouri’s spring turkey season opens Monday, April 18th and runs through Sunday May 8th. The youth season is April 9th and 10th. Details about bag limits and other regulations are found in the “2011 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet, which is available from permit vendors statewide or at mdc.mo.gov.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that Peter Ignatius Wishart was sentenced to 46-months of imprisonment on charges involving the transportation of marijuana, and agreed to the forfeiture of $1,460,398 in drug proceeds. On March 15, 2010, law enforcement in Phelps County pulled over a vehicle for committing a traffic violation while traveling westbound on Interstate 44. Wishart was the only occupant of the vehicle. A narcotics dog examined the vehicle and alerted for the presence of narcotic order. A search of the vehicle trailer revealed $1,460,398 in a hidden compartment. The investigation revealed that the currency Wishart transported was for the purchase of marijuana. Wishart of Windsor, Connecticut, appeared for sentencing before United States District Judge Rodney W. Sippel. Additionally, Wishart is now subject to a forfeiture allegation, which will require him to forfeit to the government all money derived from his illegal activity. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Phelps County Sheriff's office.
