The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, a traffic stop, a disturbance and a theft. On Tuesday, March 31st at 5:04 pm, an officer was detailed to the 900 block of South Pershing in reference to property damage.  The report revealed a juvenile male had accidentally shot a window out of a 1990 Ford truck with a BB gun.  The value of the damage is approximately $125.00. On Wednesday, April 1st at 5:00 pm, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the detention of a 16-year old female juvenile passenger for possession of marijuana.  The juvenile was released to her parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. At  9:01 that same evening an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of North Washington in reference to a disturbance.  The report led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, April 2nd at 3:30 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took two bicycles from the yard of a residence in the 800 block of South Carty.  The bicycles, a gold 20” Mongoose and a green 20” Next are valued $125.00 each.  Anyone with any information regarding the theft, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, the Circuit Court will be requesting a renewable easement or lease for the purpose of running two strands of single mode fiber optic cable from the Judicial Building to the Weaver Building via telephone poles and are requesting the City’s Electric Department to run the wire so that there is no question about their wire interfering with the City’s current usage of the poles. Bill Huffman will then report on the meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission held prior to the meeting. Alderman Kenneth Nash, Jim Jackson, Jim McDaniels and Bill Riley will then discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments on items involving the City. The board will then review and vote on Bill # 3161 that deals with the three year contract with Cintas for uniform rental, Bill #3162 that deals with disclose potential conflicts of interest as required by state statutes, and Bill #3163 concerning the recovery act-justice assistance grant program for $14,482.00 for the Salem Police Department. After approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing real estate and personnel. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

An accident happened in Dent County early Sunday morning at 1:00 on Highway 19 about six miles south of Salem that took the life of a teenager from Winona. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Chevy Blazer driven by 19-year old Tyree Phillips of Winona, went off the right side of the roadway. Phillips overcorrected causing the Blazer to return to the road and then go off the left side of the road where the Blazer overturned ejecting everyone from the vehicle. Phillips was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:03 AM by Dr. Pharr. Passengers 18-year old Casen J. Sanders and 22-year old Larry Stites of Winona suffered serious injuries. Sanders was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla by ambulance, and Stites was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. Another passenger, 19-year old Jake Walker of Winona, suffered moderate injuries and was also take to the Salem Hospital by ambulance. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat restraint and the Blazer was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitakers.

Six of eight Salem FFA contest teams placed high enough in district competition to qualify for the state competition on April 16^th and 17^th in Columbia. Taking first in districts were the Parliamentary Procedure Team comprised of Kendra Case, Ashley Greenshields, Eddie Fleetwood, Lane Howard, Kimberly Land and Ryan Tiefenthaler; and the Agronomy Team made up of Lane Howard, Phillip Moser, Nick Weslak, and Patrick Whitbrod. Talking 3^rd place in districts was the Poultry Team comprised of Taylor Fry, Ashley Greenshields and Morgan Jessen. Also qualifying for state competition were the Horse Selection Team made up of Casey Brand, Jana Helton, Samantha Riley and Kendra Glowcziewski; the Entomology Team comprised of Nathan Boxx, Angel Rictor and Colton Mallott; and the Livestock Team made up of Sierra Hagler, Wes Tatom and Cory Nichols. The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

The Salem Baseball Tigers scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but could not hold on as they committed seven errors and lost to Potosi on Friday by the final score of 7-5. Grant Gordon had two doubles and two RBI for Salem whose record is now 3-1. Today's Salem Tiger scheduled game with Houston has been postponed and will be played Tuesday at 4:30. The game with West Plains on Tuesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 4:30.

The Salem Golf Team participated in a tournament in Houston on Friday and finished 6^th overall with a final score of 411. Connor Stroburg tied for 8th overall, out of about 55 players with a score of 88.  Ben Adams shot a 101, Robbie Brooks shot a 108, Branden Piatt shot a 114, and Zach Pogue shot a 121 which did not count toward the overall total. The Golf Team will be at Willow Springs Tuesday.

Trevor Daley scored the game-winning goal just 16 seconds into overtime to give Dallas a 5-4 victory over St. Louis in the Stars' final home game of the regular season. Brad Boyes scored a pair of goals and had two assists for the Blues, who were coming off an impressive 5-4 win over Detroit on Thursday. David Backes ended with a goal and an assist, while T.J. Oshie also scored. Chris Mason turned aside 19 shots in the loss.

The St. Louis Cardinals open their regular season today against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting at 2:25. The pre-game festivities will last until about 3:15. Adam Wainwright will start the game for St. Louis. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Regular season opener at Chicago has already been postponed today due to the weather and will be held tomorrow.

The Kansas City Royals outrighted first baseman Ryan Shealy to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, providing some clarity to the club's situation at the position. With Shealy starting the season in the minors and Ross Gload having been traded to the Marlins this past Wednesday, the Royals are left with Mike Jacobs and Billy Butler to split time between first base and designated hitter.

The City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball, Softball and T-Ball Programs are just around the corner. Signups for children ages 4-14 years old will be held today and then again on Thursday and Friday, April 9^th, 10^th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The final sign-up will be held on Saturday, April 11^th from 9:00 am to noon. All sign-ups will be held in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Funeral services for Glenna Pauline Walker of Salem, age 78, will be held this afternoon at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Aileen Lunsford of Boss, age 90, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church in Boss. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
