The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 515, 516, 641, 642 and in the Bunker area on Dent County Roads 563 and 565. Simpson also said brush would be cut on Dent County Road 651. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 259 and grading would be done in the Sligo area on Dent County Roads 435, 436 and 437. Tune also said that grading would be done and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 433. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the next meeting of Dent Counties Emergency Operation Planning Committee would be May 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Dent County Firehouse. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of March. For the month there were 69 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with eight of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 247 papers consisting of 139 civil papers, 108 criminal papers and 23 notices to vacate, plus they served 17 felony warrants and 14 misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there were eight drug arrests and 12 domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued 50 tickets, made four DWI arrests and assisted on 23 traffic accidents. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department also investigated one death. For the month of March, the Sheriff’s Department investigated 11 burglaries, nine assaults, 10 thefts and 12 property damage reports. The Department spent 128 hours working in court and 17 hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 243 calls during the month and made 15 community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for March, there were 51 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 13. There were six transfers to the Department of Corrections, nine transfers to or from other departments, and there were four transfers to a mental facility. During the month of March, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 21,077 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

Spring is here, and homeowners across the state are landscaping their yards.  Homeowners need to be aware that, by law, they must contact Missouri One Call System to place a locate request before digging. The Missouri One Call System is making it easier to place a locate request with Internet Ticketing or "ITIC".  ITIC allows homeowners to immediately place a locate request 24 hours a day on the internet and offers the advantage of speed and increased accuracy. No matter how small the job, when you plan to dig, you must notify Missouri One Call System at least two working days before you dig. Anyone planning to dig can use either the 1-800-DIG-RITE phone number or ITIC to place a locate request. Placing a locate request notifies the utilities of your dig site.  Member utilities will then mark their lines allowing you to dig safely. Not notifying Missouri One Call before you dig can cause injury, interrupted service and can result in expensive repairs.  You don't know what's buried underground, so it's important to call 1-800-344-7483 or use ITIC at least two working days before you dig. To use ITIC, go to the Missouri One Call website www.mo1call.com and select "Homeowners".  The process is quick and simple. Remember to always place a locate request before digging, wait the required amount of time, respect the marks, and dig with care.

Small business owners and managers struggling with human resource challenges and questions will get some help through an upcoming training offering sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Small Business Development Program. “HR for Small Business: Avoiding the Landmines” will be offered every Tuesday starting April 10th through May 8th. The City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball Program is offering signups today in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center (formerly the National Guard Armory) from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and on Saturday, April 7th from 9:00 to noon. Signups will be held again in the on Thursday, April 12th and Friday, April 13th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. These will be the ONLY sign-ups for the Summer Baseball Program. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently age 4-12 years of age. The cost is $15.00 per child. For additional information, call the Parks & Recreation Department at 729-6290.

Grant Gordon threw a five-inning two-hitter striking out nine batters en route to a Salem Tigers 20-0 romp over Willow Springs. C. J. Smith celebrated his birthday by going 3-4 with five RBI in the game to lead the Tigers. He was supported by Matt Whitaker who went 3-4 and drove in four runs and Brad Lewis who went 2-4 with four RBI. Salem was also the benefactor of 17 walks by Willow Springs pitchers. Salem is now 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in the SCA. They will be in Thayer Monday and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

Japanese sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka lived up to all the hype in his regular season debut, striking out 10 in seven innings of one-run ball as Boston downed Kansas City, 4-1, in the finale of a three game series at a chilly Kauffman Stadium. The 26-year-old right-hander, who yielded six hits and walked just one, was the most talked about player this offseason. David DeJesus ended 2-for-4 and scored the lone run, a solo homer, for the Royals.  Zack Greinke (0-1) scattered two runs, one earned, on eight hits while striking out seven and walking one in seven innings en route to the loss. The Royals will host the Detroit Tigers for three games this weekend.

The Cardinals will be in Houston this weekend to face the Astros. You can hear the game tonight at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.

David Legwand scored a pair of goals as the Nashville Predators downed the St. Louis Blues, 4-1, at Nashville Arena. Alexander Radulov and Peter Forsberg each had a goal for the Predators, who snapped a three-game slide. Tomas Vokoun finished the game with 21 saves. Christian Backman scored the lone goal and Jason Bacashihua made 22 saves for the Blues, who had won three of four coming into the game. St. Louis completes its regular season in Minnesota on Saturday. KSMO will join the game in progress after Cards baseball.

Funeral services for Jessie David (Bud) Nash of Jerome, age 86, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Greeley United Baptist Church in Bunker. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials are suggested to the Crossville Cemetery Fund.

Graveside services for Idris Ellen Mayfield of Steelville, formerly of Coffeyville, KS, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.
