The Dent County Commissioners meet Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Deputy Wayne Becker was in to inform the Commissioners that financing bids for the new vehicles had been delivered to the banks. The bids are to be opened April 10th. Becker said that the trade in offer for the 2001 Ford Explorer with over two hundred thousand miles was only $800. The Commissioners voted to advertise that bids would be taken on the Ford Explorer. Deputy Becker also informed the Commissioners that there is an odor problem in the Annex Building. Alyssa Dudley requested that the Salem News be allowed the use of the Commissioners office Tuesday night to do interviews and to do live coverage of the election. The Commissioners approved the request. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that patch grading would be done on Dent County Road 6190 and that three trucks would be hauling materials to 6190. Purcell also stated that he had a crew replacing county road signs and picking up trash and old tires. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that materials were being hauled to and patch grading done on Dent County Roads 3220, 2330, and 4330. He went on to say that spot grading was being done on county roads where needed. Larson also said that he had a crew checking signs and picking up trash. Commissioner Larson said he attended the Healthy Dent County Community Center Committee meeting on Tuesday where the general plans for the expansion project of the Salem Community Center @ the Armory were reviewed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that on Monday he had a call from Centurylink’s Director of Taxation who said that he understood the problem and would address it both on the taxation side and with customer service. Skiles re-iterated that Centurylink customers in Dent County need to keep checking their bills to see what county their taxes are going to and if they are not going to Dent County call customer service at 1-866-579-7885. Skiles also attended the MRPC planning meeting Tuesday on the possibilities of establishment of a broadband network for first responders. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she and Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams balanced on all accounts for March. Curley went on to say that phone bids for fuel for the Road and Bridge Department were taken by phone and MFA Oil had the low bids of $3.09 for diesel and $3.13 for unleaded gasoline. The Commissioners voted to approve the MFA Oil bids via phone. Curley reminded voters that absentee voting would close at 5:00 pm Monday April 7th and that the County Clerk’s office will be open Saturday from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon for absentee voting. Curley went on to say that if voters have questions to call her office at 729-4144, and if they have address changes those must be done before Tuesday. She also reminded voters that the polls will be open Tuesday from 6:00 am until 7:00 pm and that voters must have an ID. The Commissioners voted to pay the bills. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released several arrest reports. On Thursday, March 27th at 9:30 in the evening, 43-year old Donald Ryan of Salem was arrested on a felony Franklin County warrant for driving under the influence. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on bond. On Sunday, March 30th at 12:05 in the morning, 30-year old Joshua McAfee of Salem was arrested for driving while intoxicated, failure to signal, and no seat belt. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and then released. On Tuesday, April 1st at 8:40 in the evening, 36-year old Melissa Taylor of Steelville was arrested on a felony St. Louis Police Department warrant for possession of dangerous drugs. She was taken to the Crawford County Jail and held on bond. On Thursday, April 3rd at 9:11 in the evening, 33-year old Angela Gorman of Salem was arrested on a misdemeanor Dent County warrant for violation of education for a child. She was taken to the Dent County Jail, where she was then held on bond.

The 2014 Business Expo will be held this Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Salem Upper Elementary gymnasium. The Business Expo is an excellent opportunity for local citizens and visitors to Salem to discover local businesses and what their products and services are. There will be a number of giveaways plus you can stop by the business booths and register to win a number of great prizes. Four main prizes will also be given away. The final sign-up for the City of Salem Spring Youth Soccer Program will be today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the front lobby of the Community Center @ the Armory. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently age 4-12 years old. The cost is $20 per child and for more information contact City of Salem Parks & Recreation Director, Greg Nash at 729-6290.

The Salem Tiger baseball game schedule Thursday with Potosi was postponed due to rain. It will be rescheduled at a later date. The Salem Tiger Open Track meet as well as the golf and tennis matches Thursday were postponed due to the weather.

Brian Elliott came through with an outstanding fill-in job for Ryan Miller, a 24-save effort that lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Maxim Lapierre and Brenden Morrow each tallied goals, with the latter's coming with 1:52 left to play to help the Blues tie Boston with 111 points, the most in the NHL. With the result, St. Louis also set a new franchise record with its 52nd win of the season. The Blues will host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday and you can hear it on KSMO at 12:30. The Blues will then be in Chicago on Sunday to face the Blackhawks and you can hear that game on KSMO at 11:30.

Jhonny Peralta smacked a two-run homer and Matt Adams went 3-for-5 with two runs scored as the St. Louis Cardinals waited out another long rain delay before posting a 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Matt Holliday added two hits, including an RBI double, and Trevor Rosenthal shut the Reds down over the final 1 1/3 innings to enable the defending National League champions to take the season-opening three-game series between the division rivals. Rosenthal's efforts preserved a victory for Lance Lynn (1-0) after the St. Louis starter allowed three runs while striking out seven over five innings. The Cardinals will be in Pittsburgh tonight to start a three-game series with the Pirates. You can hear tonight’s and Saturday’s games on KSMO Radio starting at 5:30, while Sunday’s can be heard starting at 2:45.

Thursday's series finale between the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park has been postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been determined. The Royals will start a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox this afternoon at Kauffman Stadium at 3:10.

Funeral services for Marilynn M. Krenning of Rolla, formerly of St. James, age 84, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in St. James. Visitation will be held from 11:30 until service time at the church. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church of St. James or the American Heart Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

There will be no services for Bonnie Jean Holland Rueter of Salem, age 92. Memorials may be made to the Backpack program at the Salem United Methodist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Bob Lanham of Bunker, age 77, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Delmar Cemetery in Bunker.

Funeral services for Delois Johns of Salem, age 83, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Black Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials may be made to the Salem High School Project Graduation.

Funeral services for Kenneth E. Meyers of Pacific, formerly of Salem, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time on Wednesday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
