The Dent County Municipal Election was held Tuesday with 1,172 votes being cast that came to about 13.41% of all registered voters. The following results are for Dent County only except for the results of the Dent-Phelps R-3 School District which includes Phelps County. Uncontested races are NOT reported. The Dent County winner is denoted by an asterisk and bold print.

An accident happened at 8:35 Monday evening in St. Francois County on Highway 32 East of David Crossing. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Honda Shadow driven by 29-year old Donald E. Harris of Salem was traveling westbound on highway 32 and the front of the Honda Shadow struck a pedestrian, 27-year old Sahvanna C. Wampler of Leadwood that was standing in the driving lane. The Honda then traveled off the right side of the roadway. Wampler suffered serious injury and was taken by Air Evac Air ambulance to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Harris suffered serious injury and was taken by the St. Francois County ambulance to the Parkland Health Center. Harris was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Honda Shadow sustained moderate damage and was taken by private conveyance.

An accident occurred at 10:15 in the morning on Sunday, April 1st in Crawford County on Highway 19 about six miles South of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven by 19-year old Kyle Meracle of Steelville was traveling northbound on highway 19, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Meracle suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Steelville EMS to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet pickup was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

An accident happened on Wednesday, March 28th at 11:05 in the morning at the intersection of Highway 19 and Franklin Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Gregory Price of Salem was traveling north on highway 19. A 1996 GMC Jimmy driven by Jo Baker of Salem was stopped on East Franklin facing west at the intersection of highway 19. Baker stated that she could see the Chevrolet coming and thought she could make it across the intersection. Baker failed to yield to the Chevrolet and collided with it. Price suffered no injuries. Baker suffered apparent not disabling injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Both vehicles sustained extensive damages and were both towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem Tigers beat the St. James Tigers in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon in St. James, 8-5. Kyle Lea went 2-3 with two RBI while Austin Bettigrew went 2-3 with one RBI. Bettigrew also got the win pitching four innings for Salem and Jake Conway got a three inning save after surrendered a home run to Eric Carter in the 5th inning. Salem improves to 5-3 on the year and will be in Houston Thursday to face the Tigers in SCA play.

The Salem Golf team finished tied for second Tuesday at Willow Springs. West Plains won the meet with a 157 while Salem and Ava were tied with a 175. Ben Adams paced the Tigers with a 39. Alan Benowitz shot a 43, Dylan Sisco 44, C.J. Davison 49, and Adam Wood 51, which did not count towards the total. They will host the Salem Invitational on Thursday morning. 

The St. Louis Cardinals will open up the regular season tonight, as they will be in Miami to face the Marlins in a one game series. You’ll be able to hear the game, starting with all the opening day festivities at 5:30 on KSMO Radio.

Chase Headley and Jesus Guzman hit back-to- back home runs in the third inning, lifting San Diego to a 2-1 spring training win over Kansas City. Brayan Pena homered for the Royal’s lone run. These teams play again this afternoon to conclude their exhibition schedule.

The St. Louis Blues will be hosting the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 6:30. The Blues are 48-21-10 on the year and have 106 points.

Funeral services for Reba Lorene Bingham of Edgar Springs, age 84, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Anutt Community Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 this morning. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Anutt Community Church.

Funeral services for Betty J. Johnson of Salem, age 76, will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery.

Funeral services for Alice R. White of Salem, age 77, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Convoy of Hope in Springfield, Missouri.

Funeral services for Grace Eva (Creech) Falkenrath of Newburg, age 88, will be Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be at the Roach Cemetery near Doolittle, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the family.
