The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that preliminary teams from FEMA and SEMA met with both districts on Tuesday and looked at the three areas in District 1 and four areas in District 2 that had been damaged by floodwaters. Simpson said that both teams indicated that Dent County would qualify for assistance, but another team will also have to assess the damage before any assistance becomes available. For the road report, Commissioner Simpson said that crews would be patching Dent County Roads 6010 and 6575, hauling material to Dent County Roads 5615 and 6010 and checking culverts for any debris.  Commissioner Tune said that crews would be patching Dent County Roads 2540, 3030, 3090, 3180 and 3300. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that polls will open on Tuesday at 6:00 am and close at 7:00 pm for the Municipal Election. The Commission went into closed session at 10:00 to discuss real estate issues then met with Kirk Larson from the United Teachers Associates at 11:00.  In Closed Session, Commissioners Darrell Skiles, Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune all voted yes to purchase Mr. Weaver and Mr. Parkers building located at 205 East 4th in Salem for $70,000. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened on Thursday, March 20th at 9:43 in the evening at the intersection of Warfel and Center Streets in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a black and gold 2004 Harley Davidson Duece driven by Justin Deason of Salem and white 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Sarah Deason of Salem were traveling eastbound on Center Street. The Chevrolet made a right turn onto Warfel Street attempting to travel southbound. The Harley Davidson struck the Impala in the passenger side from behind causing extensive damage to both the Impala and the Harley. Justin Deason suffered serious injury. Sarah Deason was not injured.

Pictures painted by Kelly Hughes showing the many faces of caterpillars with character will be on display at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center from April 8th to April 26th. Also on display will be other nature items from the Department of Conservation, Forest Service, State Parks, Department of Natural Resources, Trappers of Missouri and other organizations. There will be ideas and presentations in regards to Earth Day and preservation of our Planet Earth. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Salem Tiger Baseball Tigers game with Willow Springs yesterday was postponed due to rain and has been rescheduled for today at 4:30. If field conditions allow, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and www.ksmoradio.com. Salem is 2-0 on the year.

Albert Pujols had two hits and scored a run, and St. Louis rode the arm of Brad Thompson to a 3-0 victory over Colorado in the rubber match of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Thompson (1-0) tossed 6 2/3 innings and scattered just six hits. He also walked a pair and struck out six in the win, while the bullpen followed with a solid effort. Jason Isringhausen nailed down the save in the ninth. Troy Glaus and Aaron Miles each had two hits, while Glaus knocked in a run and Miles scored one for St. Louis. Thompson helped himself with an RBI single. The Cards host the Washington Nationals starting tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the games on KSMO Radio.

Zack Greinke hurled seven solid innings, and Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen both homered as Kansas City completed a three-game sweep of Detroit by downing the Tigers, 4-1, at Comerica Park. Greinke (1-0) allowed just one run on six hits for the Royals, who had captured the first two games of the series by scores of 5-4 and 4-0 and are now 3-0 to start the season. Gordon hit a two-run homer for Kansas City, while Teahen was 2-for-4 with a solo shot. Kansas City will be at Minnesota this weekend for a three game series.

J.P. Dumont finished with a goal and an assist, as the Nashville Predators edged the St. Louis Blues, 3-2. Jay McClement and David Backes scored the goals for St. Louis, which has dropped three in a row and six of seven. Hannu Toivonen stopped 27 shots in the loss. The Blues finish their season with a home-and-home with Columbus Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. You can hear Saturday's game at 4:00 on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Carl L. Medley of Salem, age 72, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Round Pond Church Building Fund.

Funeral services for Aubrey E. Pavy of Salem, age 89, will be held today at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Earnie C. Cochran of Herman, Missouri, age 92, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Foundation for the Blind.

Funeral service for Oma Marie Spencer of Rolla, age 86, will be held today at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lillian Barnicle of Steelville, age 85, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the Britton -Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Schwieder Cemetery in Steelville.

Memorial visitation for Clarence (Duke) G. Du Clos of St. James, formerly of Spanish Lake, age 77, will be held this evening from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Kutis Affton Chapel located at 10151 Gravois in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine of St. Jude. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. 

Funeral services for Lenore Flett of Warsaw, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery in rural Dent County.

Funeral services for Sylvia Lunsford of Steeville will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
