The Salem Tigers pummeled the Cabool Bulldogs Monday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex by the score of 22-3. Salem was the benefactor of 11 walks and four hit batsmen to go along with 11 hits in the contest. Andrew Karr had two hits and four RBI to lead Salem followed by C. J Smith who had two hits and three RBI, Solomon McNeal with two hits and two RBI and Brad Lewis had a hit and three RBI. Matt Whitaker got the win giving up three runs on five hits, but he did strike out 10 in the game. Salem improves to 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA. The Tigers will be in Willow Springs Thursday at 4:30.
Lee Stempniak scored two goals as St. Louis cooled off Dallas, 4-2. Glen Metropolit and Doug Weight also scored and Curtis Sanford finished with 28 saves for St. Louis, which took three of four meetings with Dallas this season. The Blues will be in Phoenix tonight to face the Coyotes.
Pitching on Opening Day for the first time in his career, Gil Meche allowed one run on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings, as the Kansas City Royals pounded the Boston Red Sox, 7-1, at Kauffman Stadium. John Buck homered for the Royals, while Mark Grudzielanek went 3-for-5 with three RBI and scored twice. Mark Teahen and Mike Sweeney both finished 2- for-4, and Tony Pena added a pair of triples, an RBI and scored twice.

Funeral services for Stanley J. DeGraffenreid Sr. of Rolla, age 71, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 at the Eldon City Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
