The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently hosted the seventh annual Missouri National Archery in the Schools (MoNASP) state tournament on March 27th and 28th at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. The increasingly popular event drew 1,388 competing students in grades 4-12 from 88 schools across the state along with more than 8,500 observers and supporters. Winning teams and individuals, along with other teams and individuals who had qualifying scores, will go on to compete in the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on May 7th through 9th. MoNASP is coordinated through MDC in partnership with numerous schools and supporting organizations throughout the state. It was an exceptionally fine tournament for fifth grader Irvin Johnson who placed 1st out of 243 students for Elementary Boys, took 1st out of 136 students for 5th Grade Boys and finished 2nd out of the 769 students making up the Overall Boys category. Johnson ended with a score of 293. He will go on to compete in the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky on May 7th  through 9th. Other students placing in the top 10 from Dent County included Lucas Morrison from the Dent-Phelps R-3 School who placed 9th out of the 332 participants in the Individual Middle School Boys category and ranked 2nd out of 116 students for 6th Grade Boys; and Jaden Dunn from Northwood R-4 School who placed 6th out of the 259 students for Individual Middle School Girls and ranked 4th out of 99 students for 8th Grade Girls. A total of 24 students attended from the Salem Middle School, two students came from Northwood R-4, one from the Salem High School and one from Dent-Phelps R-3. Congratulations to these students!

Following routine inspections, the Highway 19 bridge over Sinking Creek near Round Spring in Shannon County has been reduced to one lane with a weight restriction of 20 tons. The reduction will stay in place until funding for a bridge replacement becomes available. The bridge is striped and marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use caution and watch for opposing traffic when traveling in area. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released reports involving domestic assault, a theft investigation and a burglary. On Thursday, March 26th at 2:11 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a report of an active domestic assault in the 1000 block of County Road 4090. Deputies responded and made contact with the disputants. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 55-year old Timothy Tracy of Salem. Tracy is charged with a Class C felony of Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Tracy's bond was set at $7,000 cash only. On Friday, March 27th at 12:41 in the afternoon, deputies contacted Adam Kuehl at his residence, which is located in the 2900 block of West Highway 32. During a consent search, suspected methamphetamine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia were located. Kuehl was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail. Also located in the residence was Bobbie Paul who had an active probation warrant for her arrest. That evening at 5:45, Deputies responded to the 5500 block of Highway 19 North for assistance in a theft investigation. During a consent search of the property, Bradley Delashmit and Angelica Tighe were located on the property.  During a search of both Delashmit and Tighe, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located on their persons. Both Delashmit and Tighe were arrested and later transported to the Dent County Jail. Both have been charged with crimes related to the controlled substances found. On Sunday, March 29th, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary in the 4000 block of County Road 2050. A black 60-inch Sanyo flat screen television had been stolen and is currently being sought. The information presented is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will host an Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday starting at 3:00 at the Eagles Club on Highway 32 West. The Easter Egg Hunt is open to all children ten years of age and under. For more info, call 729-6219.

The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Potosi to face the Trojans today starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 2-3 record. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. THIS GAME WAS POSTPONED. NO MAKEUP DATE HAS YET BEEN SET.

The Salem Tigers Golf Team will be at Mountain Grove today at 4:00 while the Salem Track Teams will host the Salem Open starting at 4:00, all weather permitting.

The Salem Tennis Team will host the Willow Springs Bears today at the Salem City Park Tennis Courts starting at 4:00. Salem is 2-0 on the season.

The City of Salem baseball, softball and T-Ball sign-ups will be TODAY and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A FINAL signup will also be held Saturday morning April 4th from 9:00 to noon. All the signups will be held in the lobby of the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. Children ages 4 through 13 as of August 1st are eligible to play and the cost is $20 per child. For more information, call 729-6290.

The St. Louis Blues, who have lost their last three games at home, will host the Calgary Flames tonight at the Scottrade Center starting at 7:00. You can hear the pre-game show at 6:30 or immediately following Salem Tiger Baseball.

Jhonny Peralta had two hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the New York Mets, 5-4, Wednesday in Grapefruit League action. Kolten Wong also had two hits and scored twice for the Cardinals, who got six scoreless innings out of starting pitcher Carlos Martinez in his final spring tune up. Martinez allowed just three hits, struck out five and walked one. The Cartdinals will play the Mets again today.

Brett Eibner hit a pair of homers, with his two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth pulling Kansas City into a 4-4 tie with Los Angeles in Cactus League action. Hunter Dozier added two hits while Paulo Orlando singled and scored a run for the Royals, who don't play again until a two-game set with Houston on Friday and Saturday.

Funeral services for Diana Jane Wallis of Salem, age 72, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mary J. Alterauge of Salem, age 56, will be held Friday at 3:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Mary J. Alterauge funeral fund in lieu of flowers.

A private service will be held a later date for Gary Dean Smith of Salem, age 65. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
