The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, March 21st at 12:01 in the early morning, an officer transported a 29-year old Licking male from the Texas County Jail to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. Later that afternoon at 12:24, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 600 block of Boyce Lane in reference to damage to private property. The investigation revealed that someone damaged a screen window, valued at $20. Later on that evening at 6:10, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone entered a camper parked at a residence and took a laptop computer valued at $1,200. That night at 8:30, an officer was dispatched to the area of Macarthur and Gibbs in reference to a suspicious person looking into vehicles. The investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. At 9:22 that night, an officer made contact with a 26-year old female and a 33-year old male, both of Salem, in the 600 block of South Jackson. They had active arrest warrants from the City of Salem and were taken into custody and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Sunday, March 23rd at 2:18 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 34-year old Salem male in the 600 block of West Fourth. He had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem and was taken into custody and released with a new court date after posting bond. Later that evening at 6:24, an officer stopped a vehicle near the 600 block of West Fourth. The investigation led to the arrest of a 53-year old Salem male on an active felony arrest warrant from Dent County. He was transported to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office, where he was released to their custody. On Monday, March 24th at 4:16 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of West Fourth in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone entered a tan 2004 Ford truck that was parked behind a business and took a cell phone in a white case, valued at $400. On Tuesday, March 25th at 10:50 in the evening, an officer conducted a narcotics investigation at a residence in the 700 block of East Center. As a result, a 32-year old Salem male was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also taken into custody was a 49 year-old Florissant male for possession of cocaine. They were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. The Dent County Fire Protection District have released more of their reports. On Thursday, March 13th at 6:11 in the evening, eight firefighters responded to County Road 5080 for a first responder call. Upon arrival, firefighters assisted EMS and the scene was under control at 6:27. On Saturday, March 15th at 3:33 in the afternoon, eight firefighters were paged to a grass fire on County Road 5150. Upon arrival, there were several structures in danger. The Jadwin Fire Department was called in for mutual aid and the fire was extinguished. The scene was under control at 4:50. At 5:04 that evening, nine firefighters were paged to assist the St. James Fire Department with a grass fire. The fire was extinguished and the scene was under control at 7:38. Later that evening at 6:08, nine firefighters were called to a brushfire on County Road 4280. At the time of arrival the fire was reported to be 80% contained and the fire was under control at 7:25. A little later that evening at 6:54, ten firefighters were paged to a brushfire on County Road 3570. The fire was extinguished and under control at 7:38. Later that night, seven firefighters responded to a first responder call at the American Legion. Upon arrival the fire department assisted EMS and the scene was under control at 10:29.

The University of Missouri Extension will hold it’s final session of the 2014 Dent County Extension Lunch and Learn Series on Friday, April 4th. The final session is entitled Credit: Why is Your Credit Important and it will be held at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory, located at 1200 West Rolla Road, from noon to 1:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Dent County Extension office at 729-3196.

The City of Salem Spring Youth Soccer Program is just around the corner. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently age 4-12 years old. The final sign-ups will be held Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the front lobby of the Community Center @ the Armory. The cost is $20 per child and for more information contact City of Salem Parks & Recreation Director, Greg Nash at 729-6290.

The Licking Wildcats scored seven runs in the 5th inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and beat the Salem Tigers by the score of 8-2. Lane Duncan had two RBI doubles in the game and Colton Case pitched a complete game giving up only one earned run on six hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts. Kyle Lea and Adam Ziske each had two hits for Salem who falls to 0-4 on the year. The Tigers will host Potosi Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex.

T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk scored in the shootout as St. Louis tied a franchise-high for wins in a season thanks to a 1-0 victory over Philadelphia at Scottrade Center. Ryan Miller came up with 31 saves in regulation for the Blues, whose 51st win tied them with the 1999-2000 Central Division champions for most in team history. St. Louis also trails idle Boston by a single point in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. The Blues will host the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals will resume their three game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Michael Wacha will take the mound for St. Louis, opposite Cincinnati’s Tony Cingrani. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 5:35.

The Kansas City Royals will play the middle game of the three game set against the Tigers in Detroit this afternoon. Jason Vargas will be pitching for Kansas City against last year’s CY Young winner Max Scherzer. First pitch for this game is scheduled for 12:08 this afternoon.

The St. Louis Rams have signed quarterback Shaun Hill, who spent the past four seasons in Detroit. The 34-year-old Maryland product threw for 2,686 yards with 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during his extended playing time in 2010, but appeared in just four games over the past three years as a backup.

Memorial services for Paula Rae Borg of Salem, age 67, will be held at a later date at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Granite City, Illinois. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

There will be no services for Bonnie Jean Holland Rueter of Salem, age 92. Memorials may be made to the Backpack program at the Salem United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Marilynn M. Krenning of Rolla, formerly of St. James, age 84, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in St. James. Visitation will be held from 11:30 until service time at the church. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church of St. James or the American Heart Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.
