An accident occurred Saturday morning at 10:30 in Dent County on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 46-year old Sharon Boyle of Salem was traveling eastbound highway 32. Boyle reportedly had a diabetic seizure causing her to lose control of the Monte Carlo. The Chevrolet traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a concrete culvert and came to rest in the ditch. Boyle suffered moderate injuries and sought her own treatment. The Monte Carlo sustained moderate damage and was left at the scene per the owner’s request.

An accident happened Saturday morning at 3:15 in Reynolds County on Highway 72 at East Street in Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 GMC Sierra driven by 21-year old Paul Mertzlufft of Bunker was traveling westbound, attempted to make a left hand turn and was struck in the side by a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 19-year old Dustin Bishop of Bunker. Bishop and a passenger 18-year old Jessie Evans of Bunker, both suffered minor injuries and were taken by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial Hospital. The GMC sustained extensive damage and was towed by Wisdoms Auto Sales. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was left at the scene.

Salem High School vocal and instrumental music students competed at the annual district music festival held Thursday and Friday, March 28-29, at East Central College in Union, Missouri.  Advancing to state competition was Allison Hall, piano and Kyla Salyer, piano.  This will be Hall's third year competing at the state level. She was coached on her solo by Catherine Dent. Vocal music students advancing to the state level include Sarah Privett, vocal solo; Boys' Double Quartet consisting of Zach Pitchford, Branden Piatt, Colton Malott, Alex Bay, Blake Beeson, Jonathan Hambacker, Steven Morton and Adam Wood; and the Girls' Double Quartet consisting of Sarah Privett, Katie Hunt, Chastity Lo, Kim Marino, Alexa Bragg, Amy Huitt, Sarah Medley, and Natasha Krueger.  All vocal students were under the direction of Catherine Dent.  The State competition will be held the last of April on the campus of the University of Missouri - Columbia. 

An accident happened on Thursday, March 27th in Salem on Highway 32. According to the Salem Police report, a gray 1988 Dodge Dakota driven by Charles Dreisewerd of Salem was traveling north on a gravel road. At that time, a red 1987 Ford F-150 driven by Robert Brooks of Salem was traveling east on Highway 32. Dreisewerd was going to make a left turn from the gravel road onto Highway 32 and didn’t see the Ford causing contact to be made between both vehicles. Suffering injuries were Robert Brooks and Nancy McPherson. The Dodge sustained extensive damage. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

A public workshop, called by Mayor Gary Brown, will be conducted in the City Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington on Thursday, April 3rd to discuss the electric rates and various financial topics beginning at 9:00 am. The workshop is open to the public.

Troy Glaus' throwing error and Jayson Nix's bases loaded walk capped St. Louis' sour rescheduled home opener, as the Rockies rallied for two runs in the eighth and a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and Adam Kennedy finished with a pair of hits for the Cardinals, who saw Ryan Franklin (0-1) pitch poorly in the eighth. The right-hander gave up two runs on two hits and didn't record an out. Kyle Lohse threw blanks over five frames while mixing three hits and three walks with three strikeouts for the Cardinals. St. Louis native Kyle McClellan made his major league debut and set down the Rockies in order getting a strikeout. The Cards and Rockies play again tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals will be at Detroit this afternoon to face the Tigers. The Royals beat Detroit on opening day in 10 innings, 5-4.

Rich Peverley scored the game-winner in overtime as the Nashville Predators came back from allowing three goals in the game's first seven minutes to post a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center. David Perron had a goal and an assist for the Blues, losers of five of six. Andy McDonald and Jamal Mayers also scored, while Hannu Toivonen made 14 saves in relief of Manny Legace, who stopped all eight shots he faced in the first period. Blues forward Paul Kariya played in his 900th NHL game. These teams complete a home-and-home series Thursday in Nashville. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio at 7:00.
