The City of Salem Spring Youth Soccer Program is just around the corner. This league is for all boys and girls that are currently age 4-12 years old. The final sign-ups will be held Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the front lobby of the Community Center @ the Armory. The Salem Tiger baseball team will be in Licking today to face the Wildcats at 4:30 in non-conference play. Salem is 0-3 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM and online at ksmoradio.com.
The Salem Tiger tennis team opened up their season on Monday with an 8-1 win over Richland. The tennis team will host a match in Salem at 4:00 this afternoon against Houston.
Salem Tiger golf and track will be in action today. Salem golf will host their Salem Open at 4:00 while Salem track will participate in a track meet in Cuba at 3:30 this afternoon.
Yadier Molina homered for the game's only run and Adam Wainwright fired seven splendid innings to help the St. Louis Cardinals begin defense of their National League pennant with a 1-0 victory at Great American Ball Park on Monday. Wainwright (1-0) held the Reds to three singles and racked up nine strikeouts while working around four walks for the Cardinals, who have the day off today.
Alex Gonzalez tied the game with an RBI triple in the seventh and then won it with a run-scoring single in the ninth, as the Detroit Tigers rallied for a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Opening Day at Comerica Park. Kansas City starter James Shields was charged for three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. Salvador Perez went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who also have the day off today.
In expected moves, the Kansas City Royals placed pitchers Luke Hochevar and Louis Coleman on the 15-day disabled list.
The St. Louis Blues will host the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are 50-17-7 and sit three points behind Boston for the most points in the NHL. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

Memorial services for Paula Rae Borg of Salem, age 67, will be held at a later date at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Granite City, Illinois. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
There will be no services for Bonnie Jean Holland Rueter of Salem, age 92. Memorials may be made to the Backpack program at the Salem United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
