Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending a First Responder/FirstNet Broadband Network meeting at the MRPC in St. James today. He also reported that a number of people have told him their Centurylink phone bills have been wrong when it came to 9-1-1 taxes and they have met with resistance in trying to get them changed. He reminds citizens to be firm in their conviction and ask to speak with a supervisor if you are not getting satisfaction. The number to call about changing the 9-1-1 charges is 1-866-579-7885. At the last meeting, Bill Urban with Advanced Electric and Dennis Medlock came to the commissioner meeting to discuss the backup generator. Urban recommended getting a 100 KW, 6 cylinder generator that has a 400 amp transfer switch along with other various electrical needs. The estimated cost would be between $70,000 and $72,000 which includes engineering costs. The county would be responsible for the concrete base. No decision was made and the commission did say that if they decided to move forward with a backup generator they would have to put it out for bids. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.
