The Potosi Trojans defeated the Salem Tigers baseball team yesterday by the score of 7-3. Salem is now 3-2 on the year and they will host the West Plains Zizzers today at 4:30. The FINAL City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball-Softball-T-Ball sign-ups will be held today in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center on West Rolla Road from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Cameron Maybin finished 2-for-5 with a solo homer in his first game as a Padre, and helped San Diego pull ahead in the 11th inning for a 5-3 victory over St. Louis on Opening Day. Cardinals’ starter Chris Carpenter pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits and struck out four. Colby Rasmus finished 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored. The Cards will play the Padres this Saturday and Sunday on KSMO.
Torii Hunter and Jeff Mathis homered to back a shut-down start by Jered Weaver, and the Angels held on to beat the Royals, 4-2, in their season opener. Jeff Francoeur and Mike Aviles homered for the Royals, but Luke Hochevar (0-1) gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. The Royals and Angels will play again tonight.

There will be no services for Calvin Lee Brooks Jr. of Salem, age 61, per his wishes. Junior Brooks was cremated. All arrangements under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
