The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a burglary, an assault, DWI and a towed vehicle. On Saturday, March 28^th at 4:10 in the afternoon, a report was taken regarding burglary and property damage on Highway 19 North. The report revealed that a person or persons had broken into a structure and did approximately $10,000 in damage. On Sunday, March 29^th at 1:10 in the afternoon, a report was taken regarding an assault in the Dent County Jail. The subjects were placed in separate rooms until the issue could be addressed. At 9:43 that evening, a vehicle was stopped for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. After the investigation during the traffic stop, the driver was issued citations for DWI-prior offender, driving while his license revoked, no proof of insurance, and failure to stay on the right half of the roadway. On Monday, March 30^th at 1:11 in the early morning, a Dent County Deputy was dispatched to an abandoned vehicle located about 10 to 11 miles east of Salem on Highway 32 and 72. A red 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck with no license plates or registration paperwork, had been abandoned and was partially on the roadway. The vehicle was removed from the scene and impounded until the owner could be identified and located. Anyone with any with information regarding the burglary, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

KSMO Radio will replay the Candidate’s Forum that was held last Thursday evening at the City Hall Auditorium on Friday afternoon at 2:30 for those who couldn’t make it or missed hearing it the first time. The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 1^st at 5:30 pm in the hospital library. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss some 2010 budget proposals. This meeting is open to the public. 

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a hazardous moving enforcement operation conducted in Crawford County on Friday, March 20^th.  During the eight-hour operation the two assigned troopers investigated a property damage traffic crash and stopped 28 vehicles.  The troopers issued 19 citations and 21 warnings. There were 13 citations for speeding, one for careless and imprudent driving, one for following too close, one for failure to wear a seat belt and three for insurance.  Troop I will continue to enforce vigorously the rules of the road, and they encourage all motorists to do their part by always putting safety first.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that during the month of April Troop I officers will participate in two special enforcement operations. These projects include a sobriety checkpoint which will be held in Phelps County, and an “Arrive Alive” speed saturation that will be conducted in Crawford County. Captain Kenley would like to remind motorists that highway emergencies, drivers driving out of control and disabled vehicles can be reported by dialing *55 on your cellular phone.

The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

Grant Gordon went 2-2 with a 3-run homer and finished with 4 RBI to lead the Salem Tigers to an 11-1 win over Licking Tuesday at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex. Andrew Kissir went 3-3 with an RBI and Ashton Karr finished 2-2 with an RBI. Gordon was equally effective on the mound as with his bat as he gave up two hits and striking out 11 in the five-inning game. Salem is scheduled to be at Potosi on Thursday afternoon at 4:30. Salem is now 3-0 on the year.

In a four way match held in Salem on Tuesday, the Salem and Steelville golf teams tied for first with a 214 followed by Houston with a 230 and Cabool with a 241. The top four scores for Salem are Connor Stroburg and Ben Adams with a 49, Branden Piatt shot a 58, and Robbie Brooks with a 58. Salem is scheduled to be at Liberty on Thursday and a varsity tournament in Houston on Friday.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Chicago to face the Blackhawks in a key matchup starting tonight at 7:30. St. Louis is currently in the final playoff spot but has just a one-point lead over Anaheim and a two-point lead over Edmonton. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Blues have won five straight games.

The University of Missouri and head men's basketball coach Mike Anderson agreed in principle to a new seven-year contract on Tuesday. Anderson, who in 2006 became the first African-American full-time head coach in the history of Missouri athletics, led the Tigers to a 31-7 record this past season, which included a Big 12 Tournament title and a trip to the Elite Eight. In three seasons at Missouri, Anderson is 65-35.

Chris Duncan finished 2-for-4 with a three-run homer as the St. Louis Cardinals downed the Baltimore Orioles, 7-3, in spring training action. Jason LaRue and Joe Mather each belted solo homers, while Ryan Ludwick had a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI for the Cardinals. Adam Wainwright picked up the win after going five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and walking one.

Travis Buck tripled and knocked in three runs to help the Athletics trump the Royals, 7-2, in Cactus League play. Sidney Ponson surrendered seven runs on as many hits and two walks in his five-inning start for the Royals. Tony Pena had two of KC's six hits, while Mitch Maier and Willie Bloomquist each drove in a run in the loss.

The City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball/Softball/T-Ball Programs are just around the corner. Signups for children ages 4-14 years old will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd and then again on Thursday and Friday, April 9th, 10th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The final sign-up will be held on Saturday, April 11th from 9:00 am to noon. All sign-ups will be held in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Graveside services for Lorna M. Hedrick, age 81, of Olathe, Kansas will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Pastor David Kettner officiating. All local arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Derrick Wayne May of Black, age 25, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Crossville Baptist Church in Bunker. Interment will be in the Stluka Family Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.

Funeral services for James Raymond Fleming of Rolla, age 93, will be held today at 12:00 noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Rolla or the Rolla Presbyterian Manor.

Funeral services for Charles Eugene “Gene” Crider of St. James, age 77, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion.

Funeral services for Lou McFarlan of Rolla, age 80, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
