The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that crew members would be in the Sinkin Township working on the intersection of Dent County Roads 5610 and 5615. Simpson said part of the road was washed away and crew members would be hauling material and building that part of the road back up. The road is passable but is very narrow. The rest of the District 1 crew would be out checking culverts for any additional debris or damage. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that crews would be out cleaning up debris from roadways and bridges. Tune also wanted to remind everyone that Dent County Road 2540 remains closed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that SEMA will be here today at 1:00 to meet with county officials and to assess road damage. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to request a mail out ballot for the April 8th Election is Wednesday. She also wanted to let everyone know that the courthouse will be open this Saturday from 8 am until noon for anyone who would like to absentee vote. Gary Parker came by the meeting to report that the stop sign and road sign on Dent County Road 5225 had been knocked down over the weekend. The Commission went into closed session at 9:30 to discuss real estate. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
According to documents released from the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks office, here are the details leading to the arrest of 65-year old Donald R. Nash of Beaufort for 1st Degree Murder in the death of Judy Spencer. 21-year old Judy Spencer’s body was discovered about 8 miles west of Salem behind the Old Bethlehem School just off Highway 32 on March 11th, 1982, where the scene revealed a set of fresh tire tracks, which appeared to have been made by a van or truck. The partially nude body was discovered hidden in an old outhouse foundation, which was covered with logs and other debris. It was determined that Spencer was strangled with a shoelace from her right shoe and subsequently shot in the neck with a shotgun. Further investigation revealed that Spencer had been in two separate verbal arguments with Donald “Doc” Nash, herboyfriend, a short time prior to her disappearance in the evening hours on March 10th. The first verbal argument occurred at about 7:00 in the evening at the residence of Janet Jones. Jones and Spencer reportedly washed and restyled Spencer’s hair. It was reported that a short time later, which occurred within an hour of the first verbal argument, the second verbal argument occurred at the residence of Spencer and Doc Nash. At the conclusion of the second argument Spencer left and returned to Janet Jones residence, where she invited Jones to travel with her to Houston and Jones declined. Nash was interviewed concerning the death of Spencer and acknowledged that he had been in two verbal arguments the day of Spencer’s disappearance. Nash stated that he had searched for Spencer until about 9:30 the night she disappeared. It was later determined that Doc Nash had not been truthful concerning the extent of how late he searched for Spencer. In a subsequent interview, Nash invoked his right to legal counsel and was not further questioned concerning the investigation. In November 2007, several items of physical evidence collected in the year of 1982, were submitted to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory for forensic examination. The examination resulted in an unidentified male’s DNA profile being discovered under the fingernail clippings taken from the left hand of Judy Spencer. On March 13th, Doc Nash was contacted and a voluntary buccal swab was obtained for a DNA comparison. On March 19th it was determined, by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory, that Doc Nash’s DNA was matched to a DNA profile taken from Spencer’s fingernails. If was further determined that a mixture of Judy Spencer’s DNA and Doc Nash’s DNA was found under the left hand fingernails of Judy Spencer and this DNA could not have remained present during hair washing. This mixture of DNA is often normally the result of a physical struggle. On March 26th, a non-custodial interview was conducted of Doc Nash at his residence wherein he offered no explanation as to why his DNA profile was identified as being under the fingernails of Judy Spencer. Additionally Doc Nash indicated that he drove a Chevrolet pickup truck at the time of Judy Spencer’s murder. It should be noted that a short time after the interview began Doc Nash subsequently terminated the interview.

The Salem Tiger Baseball game with Cabool Monday was postponed and rescheduled for April 22nd at 4:30. Salem will host Willow Springs Thursday afternoon at 4:30.
Monday's season-opener at Busch Stadium between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies was postponed due to rain. Former Cardinal Kip Wells will take the mound for the Rockies, while the Cards will send Kyle Lohse to the hill. The game was called in the bottom of the third inning with the Cardinals ahead 5-1 of the defending National League champions. Albert Pujols hit a solo home run, while Rick Ankiel and Yadier Molina each notched two runs batted in during a four-run first inning. The Cardinals will play tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio.
Tony Pena's RBI single in the 11th inning pushed Kansas City over Detroit, 5-4, in the season-opener for both teams at Comerica Park. Leo Nunez (1-0) worked scoreless innings in the ninth and 10th to earn the win for the Kansas City, while Soria notched his first save. Starter Gil Meche went six innings, allowing eight hits and three runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Gordon hit a two-run homer for the Royals. Mark Grudzielanek added three hits and an RBI and Buck hit safely twice and drove in a run.
The St. Louis Blues will host the Nashville Predators in a home and home series. The game tonight starts at 6:30. The game will not air on KSMO due to the Cardinals baseball game.

Funeral services for Richard O. Wisdom of St. James, age 44, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery in rural Phelps County. Memorials are suggested to the Adams Cemetery.
Funeral services for Lorena Dowler of St. James, age 92, will be held Thursday at 3:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Heifer International.
Memorial visitation for Clarence (Duke) G. Du Clos of St. James, formerly of Spanish Lake, age 77, will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Kutis Affton Chapel located at 10151 Gravois in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine of St. Jude. All the arrangements are under the dirction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
