Captain Luke Vislay, the director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, announces the arrest of 65-year old Donald R. Nash, of Beaufort, Missouri, for the murder of Judy Spencer. Spencer was living in Salem when her body was discovered murdered in rural Dent County in March 1982. Investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Dent County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nash on Friday, March 28th at approximately 12:10 p.m. Nash is currently being held in the Dent County Jail without bond. The above charge is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of this charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
The Salem Police Department released their reports involving counterfeiting, outstanding warrants and drugs. On March 14th at 8:55 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store in reference to a counterfeit one-dollar bill. The report revealed that person(s) unknown passed a counterfeit one-dollar bill. The report is still under investigation. On March 17th at 8:55 in the morning, an officer apprehended a 46-year old Salem male in the 300 block of West Fifth Street on a fugitive warrant from Texas County. He posted bond and was released with a date to appear in court. Later that same day at 6:11 in the evening, an officer was investigating an assault at the 5th Street Pub. The officer observed a 39-year old male who had an active warrant from Phelps County. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. On March 24th at 10:15 in the morning, a 23-year old Salem female attempted to obtain financial assistance through Show Me Hope Center. An officer identified her and she had an active warrant from Reynolds County. She was taken into custody on the warrant, posted bond and was released with a date to appear in court. At 10:41 the same morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to possession of marijuana. The report led to the detention of a 15-year old Salem male juvenile for possession of marijuana. He was released to his guardian and will be referred to the juvenile officer. On March 27th at 1:30 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 24-year old Salem male in the 800 block of North Pershing in reference to three active warrants from Dent County. He was taken into custody, posted bond and was released.
Salem Quiz Bowl Teams swept the SCA Champions on March 24th taking first place in the varsity and junior varsity divisions. Both teams went undefeated. Named to the All-SCA First Team were Matt Prince who took the First Place Varsity medal, Jenna Homeyer who captured the Fourth Place Varsity medal, and Cricket Stroburg who took the Seventh Place Varsity medal. Named to the All SCA Second Team were Lane Howard capturing the Second Place JV medal, Bret Hagler who took the Third Place JV medal, and Cody Nickles who won the Seventh Place JV medal. The Salem Varsity Quiz Bowl Team is comprised of Jenna Homeyer, Matt Prince, Cricket Stroburg, Sarah Reeves, Brett Capps and Angie Gee. The Salem JV Quiz Bowl Team includes Bret Hagler, Cody Nickles, Lane Howard, Kaycee Webber, Rebecca Soard and James Fredericks. Susan Sheeley and Wanda Nickles coach both teams.

The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Cabool today for an SCA contest starting at 4:30, weather permitting. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.
The Salem Jr. High Track Open meet is scheduled for this afternoon at 4:00, weather permitting.
Craig Adams posted a goal and an assist as Chicago remained in the hunt for a playoff berth by escaping with a 4-3 win over St. Louis at Scottrade Center Saturday night. Brad Boyes, Keith Tkachuk and Paul Kariya tallied for the Blues, who have lost eight of 10. Manny Legace allowed all four goals on only 19 shots. The Blues will host Nashville tomorrow night at 6:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
Jose Martinez went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs batted in, as the Double-A Springfield Cardinals beat their parent club, 10-3, and St. Louis wrapped up its spring training schedule. Jon Jay went 3-for-4 with a double, while Luke Gorsett slammed a two-run homerBrian Barton went 2-for-3, while Rico Washington homered for the Cardinals. Brad Thompson started, and gave up four runs on 10 hits in four innings, though he struck out six. St. Louis opens its regular season on today against Colorado at 2:15 with the Dugout Show and 2:25 will be the opening day ceremonies.
St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contracts of infielder Rico Washington and pitcher Ron Villone; optioned pitcher Kelvin Jimenez to Memphis (PCL); returned infielder D'Angelo Jimenez to minor league camp; placed infielder Brendan Ryan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21; and transferred outfielder Juan Encarnacion from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Dave Bush tossed six innings of two-run ball, and the Milwaukee Brewers downed the Kansas City Royals, 5-2, to round out the exhibition slate for both clubs. Zack Greinke scattered seven hits over six innings, with five strikeouts and no walks, and let up one run for Kansas City, which travels to Detroit to open the season against the Tigers today. Miguel Olivo went 3-for-3 for the Royals.

Funeral services for Mariam "Jo Ann" Banks of Bowling Green, Kentucky, formerly of Salem, age 67, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 in the morning until service time Tuesday. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Herman Cemetery.
Funeral services for Clayton Michael Woodward of Rolla, age 43 will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.

Du Clos of St. James, formerly of Spanish Lake, age 77, will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Kutis Affton Chapel located at 10151 Gravois in St. Louis.
