The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, March 20^th at 10:01at night, a total of six firefighters responded to the 900 block of East Fourth Street for a natural vegetation fire. The fire was determined to be a confined wild land fire. The scene was under control and all units returned to the station at 10:48 that evening. On Monday, March 21^st at 10:19 PM, a total of six firefighters responded to Dent County Road 5013 and Doss Road for a grass fire. The fire was extinguished by fire service personnel and the scene was brought under control at 10:58 pm. On Tuesday, March 22^nd at 9:25 in the morning, a total of five firefighters responded to Dent County Road 5115 for a mobile vehicle fire. The fire was extinguished and all units returned to the station at 10:33 that same morning. Then at 8:40 that evening, seven firefighters responded to South Main Street in Salem to setup a landing zone and provide manpower. The scene was brought under control at 9:41 pm.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, March 18^th at 1:03 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence on North Pershing Street in reference to a prowler. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a vehicle and took several items. Later that night at 8:15, an officer transported a 55-year-old male of St. Louis to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Saturday, March 19^th at 4:13 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the City Park in reference to a vehicle driving in the grass causing damage. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 21-year-old male of Salem for damage to city property. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday morning, March 20^th at 3:51, an officer was sent to the 800 block of South Oak Street in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 38-year-old male of Salem for violation of an ex-parte order and sexual misconduct. He was incarcerated and will be issued summons to appear in court. Later that night at 11:29, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of West International in reference to a missing juvenile. The investigation of the report revealed that a 15-year-old female juvenile had run away from home and was later located and released to her mother. On Monday evening, March 21^st at 8:25, an officer was detailed to McDonalds in reference to an intoxicated person. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 44-year-old male of Salem for an open container. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. On Tuesday, March 22^nd at 1:30 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Mobil Convenience Store in reference to a leave without paying for fuel. The investigation of the report revealed the driver of a red late model Ford Taurus pulled in, pumped $50.00 in fuel, and left without paying for the fuel. Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding the prowler or the leave without paying, which are still under investigation.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, wants to remind everyone that flash flooding caused by heavy spring rains is common on Missouri’s many creeks and rivers. If you come to a low spot in the road covered with running water, do not try to cross it. Even a few inches of fast moving water can sweep a motor vehicle into the creek or river. If water rises quickly around your vehicle, abandon it for higher ground. Always heed signs that warn of flash flooding and if necessary, take the extra time to use a detour. Don’t take unnecessary chances risking your life or the lives of loved ones.

Ryan Smith allowed one hit in 5 1/3 innings of work plus went 2-2 and scored three times to help Salem beat Licking Tuesday in a rain soaked game, 8-4 in six innings. Austin Bettigrew also had two hits and scored twice for Salem who improved to 3-1 on the year. They will be at Potosi Thursday afternoon.

Salem Golf won it's first match of the year, in a rain soaked 9 hole meet in Salem on Tuesday. Salem shot a team total of 193. Individual Scores for Salem include Ben Adams with a 43, Connor Stroburg shot a 47, Adam Wood finished with a 51 and Dylan Sisco ended up with a 52, and Alan Benowitz shot a 53 which did not count toward the team total. The next match will be at Willow Springs next Tuesday.

Aaron Matthews' sacrifice fly highlighted a three-run eighth inning as the Marlins doubled up the Cardinals, 4-2, in Grapefruit League play. Colby Rasmus belted a solo homer in the first inning, while Tyler Henley's sacrifice fly in the eighth accounted for St. Louis' other run. Cardinal’s starter Jaime Garcia went six innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven. The Cards open the regular season Thursday afternoon.

Brayan Pena belted a two-run homer in the second inning as the Royals topped the White Sox, 3-2, in Cactus League play. Jeff Francoeur added a sacrifice fly later in the second, while starter Bruce Chen went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out four. The Royals open the regular season Thursday.

The Texas Rangers dealt catcher Matt Treanor to the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations on Monday. The 35-year-old journeyman backstop hit .211 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 82 games for the AL champions in 2010.

Mikko Koivu was credited with the deciding goal in the shootout as the Minnesota Wild beat the Blues, 3-2 at Scottrade Center. Chris Stewart posted both tallies for the Blues. Jaroslav Halak made 26 stops but lost after yielding two goals on three tries in the shootout. The Blues will be in Detroit tonight starting at 6:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

The FINAL City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball- Softball-T-Ball sign-ups will be held on Thursday, March 31st and Friday, April 1st in the front lobby of the Salem Freedom Activity Center located on West Rolla Road from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Funeral services for Hazel P. Bogle of Owensville formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Morton Chapel in Linn. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Lane Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Bogle family.

Funeral services for Jewel (J.D.) Sapaugh of Salem, age 69, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for June L. Lewis of Salem, age 93, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Salem Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Rooms.

Funeral services for Carol Elliott of Salem, age 80, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Lois June Day of Bunker, age 71, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service. Internment will be held in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Day family.
