The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, active warrants and an assault. On Sunday, March 22nd at 12:00 noon, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of East Second Street in reference to damage to a vehicle. The report revealed that a person of persons unknown broke a mirror on a maroon Chevrolet Cavalier.  The value of the damage is approximately $150. On Monday, March 23rd at 10:40 pm, an officer observed a 31-year old Salem female who had an active warrant for her arrest in the 300 block of East Truman. She was taken into custody and incarcerated on the City of Salem warrant. On Tuesday, March 24th at 8:23 pm, an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East First Street in Salem in reference to an assault. The report revealed that a Salem male of unknown age, had assaulted a 23-year old Salem female. At 9:00 pm that same evening, an officer observed a 41-year old Salem male, who had an active City of Salem warrant for his arrest, in the 700 block of South Pershing. After being taken into custody, he was able to post bond and was released with a court appearance date. Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded no traffic fatalities during the month of February 2009, and that is three less than February 2008. The total fatalities for 2009 are none as compared to six for the same time period last year. In February of 2008, there were 276 accidents reported with 61 injuries and three fatalities compared to February of 2009 which had 239 accidents reported with 95 injuries and no fatalities. Crawford County reported 24 accidents occurred with eight injuries while Dent County had 18 accidents reported with 13 injuries. Laclede County reported that 52 accidents occurred with 24 injuries while Maries County had seven accidents and three injuries reported during the month. Phelps County reported 76 accidents occurred with 23 injuries while Pulaski County reported that 62 accidents happened with 24 injuries. The highway patrol also wants to remind everyone that flash flooding in the Ozarks can happen quickly and to beware of low water crossing in times of heavy rain for impassable conditions.

An accident happened at 6:00 Thursday morning in Dent County on Highway 72 about a tenth of a mile west of Dent County Road 2070. According to the highway patrol report, a 2009 Ford Focus driven by 31-year old Winona Johnson of Rolla was traveling eastbound on highway 72. The accident occurred as the Ford struck a deer. Johnson suffered minor injury and was taken by private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford sustained moderate damage and towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform bridgework on Route 72 in Dent County on the Stone Hill Bridge beginning today. Weather permitting, the work crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Bridge maintenance is performed to improve the section where the road and bridge meet and prevent deterioration of the bridge deck or structure. MoDOT will also perform drainage work on Route 32 in Dent County, from Route MM to inside the city limits of Salem.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Drainage work keeps the roadway dry and maintains stability and proper drainage of water from the travel lanes. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on or near the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving past the work zone. Senator Frank Barnitz announced that District Legislative Assistant Wilma Rowden of Vienna would continue her listening posts in March at locations throughout the 16th Senate District. Rowden will be at the Dent County Courthouse in Salem this morning from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

The 1st quarterly nightly meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Monday, April 13th beginning at 7:00 pm and will be held in the Associate Court Room at the Judicial Building in Salem.

The Cardinal pocket schedules have arrived and are available around town and at the KSMO Radio Station lobby.

Kemba Walker scored a career-high 23 points and Connecticut earned another trip to the Final Four with an 82-75 victory over Missouri in the West Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon. Leo Lyons and Matt Lawrence each scored 13 for the third-seeded Tigers (31-7), who snapped Memphis' 27-game winning streak with a 102-91 triumph Thursday night. Missouri has still never reached the Final Four. The Tigers, who earned the Big 12 Conference Tournament title, also got 12 points from DeMarre Carroll.

David Perron scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout as the St. Louis Blues beat the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday night by the score of 4-3. Patrik Berglund then led the Blues as he scored a goal and dished out two assists, as the red-hot St. Louis Blues swept the home-and-home series with the Columbus Blue Jackets after posting a 5-2 victory at Nationwide Arena. The Blues have won five consecutive games. David Perron and T.J. Oshie had a goal and an assist each for the Blues, who hold an impressive 12-4-1 mark over its last 17 games. David Backes and Brad Boyes also lit the lamp. Chris Mason stopped 26 shots to improve to 23-20-6 on the season. The Blues will be in Chicago Wednesday night.

Kevin Slowey continued his solid Spring by striking out five and scattering eight hits and two runs in six innings in Minnesota's 5-3 win over the Cardinals. Rick Ankiel hit a two-run homer in the fifth for St. Louis, while starter Chris Carpenter fanned seven but allowed seven hits and four runs in 4 2/3 frames to take the loss.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed third baseman Troy Glaus and pitcher Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, on Saturday. Glaus underwent surgery on his right shoulder January 21 while Garcia is recovering from "Tommy John" surgery performed on September 8, 2008.

Alberto Callaspo had four of Kansas City's 22 hits, adding three runs scored and two runs batted in during the Royals' 17-12 drubbing of Seattle in Cactus League play. Home runs from Alex Gordon, Tony Pena and Ryan Shealy, the latter a three-run blast, helped the Royals overcome a bad start out of Zack Greinke, who was lit up for eight runs on 10 hits in two innings.

Graveside services for Lorna M. Hedrick, age 81, of Olathe, Kansas will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Pastor David Kettner officiating. All local arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Derrick Wayne May of Black, age 25, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Crossville Baptist Church in Bunker. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Stluka Family Cemetery.

Funeral services for James Raymond Fleming of Rolla, age 93, will be held Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. memorials may be made to the Fisrt Christian Church in Rolla or the Rolla Presbyterian Manor.

Funeral services for Lou McFarlan of Rolla, age 82, are incomplete at this time but under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
