An accident occurred at 3:30 Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 32 West and Macarthur in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a maroon 1989 Dodge Caravan driven by Melissa Hudson of Salem was in the turn-lane approaching highway 32 and came to a stop. A black 1997 Ford F-150 driven by Amy Michelle Miller and owned by Billy Miller of Salem was doing the same thing and struck the Dodge from behind. No injuries were reported. The Dodge sustained moderate damage and the Ford sustained minor damage in the accident.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done and materials would be hauled to Dent County Roads 622 and 623 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 651. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that a crew would be grading and hauling rock to the Edgar Cemetery Road and to various roads in the Anutt area.  Tune said grading would also be done on Dent County Roads 333, 405 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 433. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Emergency Management Committee Meeting Tuesday morning.  At the meeting Skiles said Emergency Management Director Jack Emory discussed the counties procedure for tracking storms and also discussed the possibility of revising the counties emergency management plan.  Skiles said the possibility of moving the counties Emergency Operation Center from the City Hall Basement to the Dent County Firehouse was also discussed, because of the radio communication that is available at the firehouse. These changes will be discussed more at future meetings. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the clerk’s office will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for absentee voting. At the previous meeting the Commission received a request to sign an agreement between MRPC, The City of Salem and Dent County, regarding Technical Assistance to facilitate town hall meetings. After some discussion the Commission agreed to sign the agreement allowing the county to donate up to eight hours of technical assistance. Chris Shaver stopped by the meeting to discuss a drainage ditch in Adams Subdivision. Commissioner Simpson said he would take a look at the pipes and try to have them cleaned out. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 3rd at the Dent County Fire Protection Building at #2 South Main at 6:00 p.m.  Discussion will include the financial report and calendar review. Under the Chief’s report, firefighters will hear about a snorkel and air compressor inspection. In old business, discussion will include committee reports, and a review of policies and procedures.  The Board will then discuss any new business, and then adjourn and go into executive session to discuss personnel, property and litigation. The meeting Tuesday is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold a special meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Hospital Library. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss contracts. The meeting is open to the public.

Potosi’s Chad Smith’s bloop single in the bottom of the 8th inning with the bases loaded gave the Potosi Trojans a 1-0 win over the Salem Tigers in a pitchers’ battle Thursday in Potosi. Grant Gordon went six innings and allowed no runs on three hits, struck out five and walked one; while his opponent Chad Smith allowed three hits, walked no one, hit a batter and struck out eight. Ethan Curley took the loss giving up the one run on one hit. Brandon Plank had two hits for Salem as they fall to 3-2 on the year and they will host Cabool Monday afternoon at 4:30.

Doug Weight recorded a goal and an assist and Barret Jackman had three assists as St. Louis defeated Edmonton, 5-2. Peter Sejna, Lee Stempniak, Jay McClement and Petr Cajanek also scored and Jason Bacashihua finished with 16 saves for the Blues, who halted a brief two- game skid. The Blues final home game of the year will b Saturday night at 7:00 and you can hear that game on KSMO. The Blues will end their season with a four game road trip.

Scott Rolen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as St. Louis battled Florida to a 4-4 tie. Yadier Molina went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Cardinals. St. Louis starter Kip Wells pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up five hits and two runs -- one earned -- while striking out seven and walking one. The Cards face Memphis tonight at 7:00 and Cleveland at 4:00 tomorrow before opening the season Sunday night at 5:50 against the New York Mets. All the games can be heard on KSMO.

Mark Teahen belted a three-run home run and Mike Sweeney smacked a two-run shot as Kansas City downed Texas, 7-5, in spring training action. Ross Gload added a solo homer for the Royals, while Odalis Perez started on the mound and yielded one run on two hits in three innings of work.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed safety Jon McGraw to a two-year contract on Thursday. Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Funeral services for Haston Luna of St. James, age 85, will be this morning at 11:00 a.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James.  Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Amelia Mae “Mickey” Tetrault will be this morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home in Creve Coeur, with 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Monica Church.  Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Graveside services for Cora Hagler of St. James, age 95, will be today at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Donald E. Harrison of Salem, age 85, will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Bill Matlock of Lenox, age 89, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery.

Graveside services for Peggy Levon Jean Weber, age 37, of Salem, will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Weese Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary.
