Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of the cattle and are currently held in the Dent County jail pending warrants. Manu Teo age 25 of Waynesville and Eric Oconnell age 30 of Iberia have been arrested and charged in connection with the cattle thefts from the Salem Livestock Barn. Both subjects are currently being held on a $50,000 Cash Only bond.The sheriff's office would like to thank the citizen's and surrounding law enforcement agencies that have helped with this investigation.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done and materials would be added to Dent County Road 5610 and 6333, while grading would be done on county road 5170. He stated that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 5615 and that a man was repairing the 924 Caterpiller Loader. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2120, 3070 and 4430; and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Roads 2150 and 2210. He said that he would also have a man working on the loader as well. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a Central Regional Workforce Investment Board Caucus on Wednesday and said that they have been hurt as well by the sequestration. They have had a reduction in funding in the Dislocated Worker Program and the Youth Employment Program. He said that the State Parks Youth Corps last year had 112 positions and this year that number has been reduced to 43. Positions in our area include seven at Montauk State Park, three at Dillard Mill State Park and six at Onondaga Cave State Park. This program is open to young people between the ages of 17 and 24. Skiles did say it was reported that jobless traffic has been down from last year, and that Tammy Walker was asked to fill the vacancy on the CWIB board from Dent County and she agreed. Skiles discussed the survey of the Stagner Cemetery with Dent County Surveyor Craig Ruble and he indicated that he could survey the property at a cost of no more than $1,500 and it would be ready in one to two weeks. The Commission unanimously approved for Ruble to perform the survey. Commissioner Dennis Purcell asked the other commissioners if he could put in an online bid on a 2001 Sterling Dump Truck for $22,000 that was owned by a construction company in Nebraska. Purcell stated that he had $23,100 in funds available to use toward the purchase of the replacement truck from the proceeds of the old truck. The commissioners approved his request. Sheriff Rick Stallings came in to inform the commission that he had a meeting with Jack Ficker, the acting chief of the Jadwin Fire Department, to review the 9-1-1 logs on the call for the house fire that took the life of two Dent County women. Stallings said that the chain of events that he reported in the Salem News were not accurate and wants to clarify them with Ficker. At the last meeting, Matt Lloyd with Fabick and Company brought in the information on the grader warranty buy back. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
On Wednesday, March 27th the Dent County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the Salem Livestock Auction in reference to cattle theft from their facility. Investigation has revealed that the theft occurred in the early morning hours just after midnight and 1:30. The surveillance video obtained by the Dent County Sheriff’s office shows two suspects retrieving cattle from back lots, herding them into a shoot and loading them into a 53’ tractor-trailer. At this time, it is believed the suspects stole 4 cows and 1 calf. This case is currently under investigation. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office in Salem, MO is seeking information about the suspects. Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announced a boating safety certification course being offered to the public on Saturday, April 6th at Troop I Headquarters located at 1301 Nagogami Road in Rolla. The class will begin at 12:00 (noon) and conclude at approximately 6:00 pm. There is no fee for this course; however, students are required to pre-register online, as seating will be limited and notification may be sent in the event the course is canceled. For more information, to register for the course, or to obtain a complete listing of where other courses are being offered, select the “Boater Safety Education & Certification” link under “Training” on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s home page www.mshp.dps.mo.gov. Missouri law requires any person born after January 1, 1984, to carry a boating safety certification card along with a picture ID anytime they operate a vessel, which includes personal watercraft, on Missouri lakes. Any student who successfully passes the course will be eligible to order the boating safety certification card for $15. The Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves from all types of hazardous drivers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Devin Hammock went the distance, giving up just four hits while striking out 11 Salem batters as the Potosi Trojans edged the Salem Tigers, 1-0. Jake Conway took the loss for the Tigers pitching five innings allowing one run on four hits. Salem falls to 1-2 on the year and will host the Mountain Grove Panthers on Monday at 4:30 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex.
The Salem Tiger Tennis team beat Willow Springs, 8-1, in the season opener. The next match will be at Mt. View on Thursday.
Mike Richards scored the game-winner late in the third period to help the Los Angeles Kings take a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Vladimir Tarasenko scored both goals for the Blues, who have dropped three straight and four of five. Jaroslav Halak gave up three goals on 39 shots in the loss. The Blues will Be in Minnesota to face the Wild on Monday.
Matt Holliday went 2-for-2 and drove in the game's only run in the first inning as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Miami Marlins, 1-0, on Thursday in spring training play. Jon Jay had two hits and scored the winning run for the Cardinals, who saw starter Lance Lynn last six scoreless innings and allow two hits while striking out five batters in the victory. The Cardinals will play their final spring training game this morning against the Mets at 11:10. St. Louis will then open up their regular season on Monday with a three-game series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
Salvador Perez had two hits, including a three-run homer, and Alex Gordon added a solo shot as the Kansas City Royals took a 8-3 decision over the Cincinnati Reds in spring training play. Paulo Orlando and Lorenzo Cain each had two hits and drove in one run for the Royals, who saw starter Ervin Santana give up two runs on seven hits and strike out three batters over four innings. Kansas City finished with 16 hits. Kansas City will play their spring training finale today against the Indians at 2:05.
