The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, March 10th at 11:52 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for the investigation of purchasing meth precursors. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 52-year old Salem male for possession of meth precursors and driving while revoked. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, March 11th at 6:15 in the evening, two vehicles were stopped for traffic violations. The investigation of the stops led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for possession of drug paraphernalia and a 20-year old Salem male for distribution of a controlled substance near a school. The 18-year old suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The 20-year old suspect was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Monday, March 12th at 12:53 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Walnut Motel in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a flat screen television set valued at $250 from a room. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of the television set, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Due to serious safety concerns, Ozark National Scenic Riverways has closed the staircase leading into Devils Well. The wooden steps and handrails have deteriorated to the point that they are unsafe for public use.  Efforts are underway to secure the funds necessary to implement repairs and reopen the staircase.  The area surrounding Devil Well is open for visitors to witness the large and impressive sinkhole. Marcus Sykora of Osage Beach, MO, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 26 pounds, 4 ounces on Saturday March 24th to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Ozark Division event on Lake of the Ozarks. For his victory, Sykora earned $5,235. Rounding out the top 10 pros in 2nd Place, from Salem, MO was John Bach with five bass, which totaled 22 pounds, 10 ounces and netted $2,118. The next BFL Ozark Division tournament is scheduled for April 21st on Stockton Lake in Stockton, MO. After the fifth Ozark Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Regional Championship on Lake Barkley in Kentucky from October 11th through the 13th.  Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a traffic stop and a report of stolen wheels and tires. On Friday, March 23rd deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 32-72 and Highway 19 when the driver of a vehicle was stopped for driving while suspended. As a result of the stop the driver, 27-year old Dennis J. Cunningham of Salem, was issued a summons for Driving While Suspended and arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Williams was given a date to appear in court for Driving While Suspended and was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail awaiting issuance of warrants. On Monday, March 26th deputies were dispatched to the 1800 block of South Main, (Tiny's Garage) for a report of stolen wheels and tires. Upon arrival contact was made with Tiny. He stated that the wheels and tires came up missing from a 1999 Chevy Blazer owned by Terry Phelps.  Phelps described stolen wheels and tires as; 20" aluminum rims that are chrome plated. The rims had 20" low profile tires mounted on them, and photographs of the Blazer and the tire tread pattern from the stolen tires were obtained. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen wheels and tires is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department at 729-3241.

The Salem Tiger Tennis team will be playing at Willow Spring this afternoon at 2:15.

The Salem Tiger Track team will host a meet at the Salem High School track today at 4:00.

Jon Jay knocked in two runs and Tyler Greene added a solo home run as the St. Louis Cardinals bested the Detroit Tigers, 9-5, in Grapefruit League play. Adam Wainwright gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits over 4 2/3 innings for St. Louis. The Cardinals play the Miami Marlins this afternoon at 12:05.

Matt Kata's run-scoring double in the top of the 10th inning gave the Texas Rangers a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Jason Bourgeois finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Erick Hosmer went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Luke Hochevar gave up four runs on eight hits in five frames for the Royals. The Royals play the L.A. Angels this afternoon at 3:05.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Chicago tonight to play the Blackhawks at 7:30. The Blues are 48-20-9 on the year and their 105 points is tied for best in the NHL with five games remaining on their regular season schedule. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms with wide receiver Steve Smith. In over 55 games with the Eagles and Giants since 2007, Smith has compiled 231 catches for 2,510 yards and 12 scores.

Memorial services for Wilson Preston Woolsey of Rolla, age 68, will be held tonight at 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 5:00 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral services for Kurtis Terrill Lambiel of Rolla, age 77, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla with a Masonic service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home.

Funeral services for Jessie Stella (Jackie) Hutson of Salem, age 101, will be Saturday at 3:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Meals on Wheels or the Senior Center, both of Salem.

Mrs. Virginia Lorine Shelton passed away March 28th in Salem. Miss Shelton was cremated and there will be a Memorial Service at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
