Ozark National Scenic Riverways is responding to rowdy behavior on the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers by cracking down on those whose  misbehavior detracts from others’ enjoyment of the area. To insure that the Ozark Riverways is a family friendly park with positive outdoor recreation opportunities for all visitors, public misbehavior that would never be tolerated on the streets of St. Louis or Kansas City will not be tolerated there either. New regulations include banning “beer bongs” and similar volume-drinking devices. Those possessing the beer bongs will be subject to a Federal citation. It is recommended that adult visitors bring no more than 6 cans of beer per day or similar quantities of alcoholic beverages per day per adult.  It is also recommended that people floating in canoes and rafts should bring a cooler no larger than 48 quarts, unless they are camping along the river. Impaired floating can be as dangerous as drunk driving and we want people to stay safe out there.  Loud gatherings will be discouraged as park rangers enforce sound level laws. This will mean no more blasting stereo systems, air horns, or dangerous and illegal “dry ice bombs.”  Enforcement of rules against jumping from rocks or cliffs and banning rope swings within the park will save lives, reduce injuries and cut down on “party spots.” All drug and underage drinking laws will be strictly enforced, as well as laws prohibiting glass, disorderly conduct, public nudity, profanity and littering.  National Park Rangers will work closely with the Missouri Water Patrol, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Conservation and local Sheriff Departments to quickly cite or arrest troublemakers and remove them from the park.
