The Salem Police Department released their reports for March 19th through the 24th involving property damage and theft. On March 19th at 10:03 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Craig Drive Storage in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown cut a lock off one of the storage units. The damage is valued at $10. The report is under investigation. On March 20th at 8:20 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 400 block of West Fourth in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown damaged a blue and silver 1989 Chevrolet van and a white 1996 Dodge Intrepid. Further investigation revealed that an AM/FM receiver and a remote charger were taken from the van. The items are valued at $500. The report is under investigation. On March 24th at 6:01 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a black and green boys Mongoose bicycle from the yard at #2 North Henderson. The bicycle is valued at $110. The report is under investigation. A child’s life is a series of firsts, the first tooth, the first step, the first word and the first birthday. The Missouri Department of Conservation has a program to commemorate one of those signal events, a young angler’s first fish. Proud parents, aunts, uncles or friends of young anglers can get certificates suitable for framing for their protégés. Applications are available at www.mdc.mo.gov/fish/kids/. Print out the form, and fill it out. Mail the completed application, along with a photo of the angler holding his or her first fish, to the Missouri Department of Conservation, Fisheries Division, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO, 65102-0180. All photos are returned with the certificates. If you cannot download the form, you can send in the nominee’s age, name, address and phone number, along with the species, weight and length of the fish, when and where it was caught and by what method such as pole and line, etc. If you do not have a photo, the Conservation Department can substitute a shiny foil First Fish Award seal on the face of the certificate.

The Salem Ranger District of the Mark Twain National Forest is seeking your comments on a proposal to re-issue a ten-year Term Grazing Permit and Allotment Management Plan for the Asher Creek Grazing Allotment. Asher Creek is located two miles southeast of Boss. The Allotment is approximately 200 acres of National Forest System lands. The Salem Ranger District is proposing to authorize livestock grazing in a manner that moves toward Forest Plan Goal and Objectives. The plane includes controling the time, duration and intensity of livestock grazing to achieve a desired structure and species compostition objectives, to allow grading only in those areas with adequate fencing for control and management of livestock and grazing will not be allowed with in 100-feet of springs, significant seeps, fens, other wetland features or the break of a sinkhole basin. District Ranger Thomas Haines invites you to comment on this proposal before the analysis has been completed and a final decision has been made. U.S. Senator Christopher S. “Kit” Bond announced that a special Listening Post Forum would be held today. Bond’s representative, Tom Schulte, will be available earlier in the day in Reynolds and Shannon Counties and then will be at the Dent County Courthouse at 2:00 pm. An accident happened last evening at 6:35 on Highway 19 about 6.5 miles south of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 GMC Jimmy driven by 39-year old Melinee L. Mabe of Steelville, slowed for a dog in the roadway after rounding a curve and was struck from behind by a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 41-year old Darla C. Vance of Steelville. Vance suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Steelville Ambulance. All involved in the accident were wearing seat restraints and both vehicles sustained moderate damages.

Matt Whitaker and Grant Gordon combined on a two hitter as the Salem Tigers shut out the Licking Wildcats yesterday, 4-0. Whitaker struck out five and walked two in going six innings, then Gordon came on in the 7th inning and struck out the side. Whitaker also had two RBI for Salem and CJ Smith had two hits and an RBI. Pat Matson for Licking went six innings giving up four runs on five hits and five strikeouts, but did issue seven walks that directly led to three runs. Salem is now 3-1 on the year and they will be at Potosi tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and on-line at www.ksmoradio.com.

Chris Carpenter hurled seven innings of four- hit ball, striking out five, as St. Louis blanked Los Angeles, 3-0, in Grapefruit League action. Albert Pujols had two hits including a solo home run for the Cardinals while David Eckstein and Aaron Miles also drove in runs.

Ronny Cedeno and Aramis Ramirez each knocked in three runs as the Chicago Cubs downed the Kansas City Royals, 13-10, in spring training action. Mike Sweeney finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI for the Royals, who had 13 hits. Thad Markray suffered the loss, allowing three runs on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Fredrik Modin scored twice, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets over the St. Louis Blues, 4-1, in the finale of a home- and-home set at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer had the lone tally for St. Louis, which has dropped four of its last five overall. Curtis Sanford had a rough night, allowing three goals on 12 shots before being pulled in the second period. The Blues will face Edmonton Thursday night at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Shilynne Johnson of Vichy, age 18, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the High Gate Cemetery in High Gate, Missouri.
