The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that Dent County Roads 5510 and 6630 would have rocked added and will be graded, and Dent County Roads 4180 and 9160 will also be graded. Purcell said that a pipe is going to be replaced on Dent County Road 6633, and that the trees and limbs downed from the winds have been removed from the roads. In District Two, Commissioner Gary Larson said that Dent County Roads 3120, 3122 and 3180 would have rock added and be graded, and that Dent County Roads 2130 and 4330 would be graded. He said that the brakes have been repaired on truck #114 and it is now back in service. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that all three commissioners attended the South Central Commissioners meeting in Texas County on Wednesday, and heard reports on the National Forest Service and from Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee. Skiles said that in the Judicial Building Annex the juvenile offices will be on the right as you go in, and the Public Administrator’s office will be in the northeast corner of the building, while the Coroner’s office will stay where it is it. He said he spoke with Fire Chief Brad Nash about another exit for fire purposes and he will check into that. Skiles said that he talked with Anderson and Associates Engineering about putting in a bid for the engineering work to be done for the offices and a possible exit door. They should be able to get to that next week. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley attended the insurance consortium in Springfield and said that they were updated on the COBRA rules that will affect the county. District 1 Commissioner Purcell said that the county put in a bid for a two-wheel drive brush cutter from Phelps County. Bids were to be opened today. Presiding Commissioner Skiles added that the county contacted the state auditor’s office to get the requirements on acquiring used equipment. Commissioner Larson also presented a letter from the Dent County Memorial Chapel that they now have a cooler and also a four-wheel drive vehicle if necessary for the Coroner to use. Salem Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs brought in a copy of an article that was in the New York Times about the Road Rally in Salem. She also told the commissioners that she, Nick Gilliam and Sara Hultine would have data next week to the commission on the economic impact of the Road Rally in Dent County. Joe Case and Gene Martin from MFA Oil came in to explain their product to the Commissioners before they bid on the fuel contract for the county. Ralph Carter from Freightliner came in and brought pictures and specs of two used dump trucks he is trying to help a client sell. The commission did ask him about new trucks as well, and he will keep his eye out on any available dump trucks. Scott Hilton from Cleverstone came in and discussed chip and sealing roads this year. He brought with him a bid even though the county has not advertised for them yet. He also discussed a new type of sealant that can be used on an existing chip and seal road instead of putting down another single layer and the price is a little cheaper than re-chip and sealing. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
