The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington at tonight starting at 7:00 pm. After the approval of the agenda, the Board will hear bids for employee uniforms, salvage metal, and the sale of vehicles. In Public Hearings, Director of Public Works and Engineering Bill Huffman will report on the Planning and Zoning Board Public Hearing on March 19^th for vacating a portion of a 20-foot alley between North Washington and North Main Street. In the Reports of City Officials and Boards and Committees, Director of Public Works and Engineering Bill Huffman will update the Board on all departments’ future, current, and completed projects. City Administrator, Clayton Lucas will update the Board on items concerning the City. Aldermen Jerry Randell, Kenneth Nash, Haydn Powell, and Phillip Giacomelli will discuss items concerning the City and Mayor Gary Brown will also discuss items concerning the City. In the Introduction and Reading of Bills and Resolutions, Bill # 3251 is an Ordinance is required in order for the City to recoup costs that are associated with the use of tasers. The cost is $30.00 and it will be added to any fine and costs or other punishment given to the defendant. This fee will be collected as any other court-ordered fine and court costs will be presented. Bill # 3252 is an Ordinance that was requested by the Board in the advent that the City’s wholesale supplier of electric shall implement a rate increase or decrease, that same rate shall be applied to the City’s currents rate without the necessity of a vote from the Board will also be presented. In New and Miscellaneous Business, City Clerk, Mary Happel will discuss the requirements for a Peddlers License in the City of Salem and an ordinance to possibly ban the issuance of ephedrine or pseudophederine related products over the counter. Pseudophederine is used to manufacture methamphetamine. The Board will then vote to go into closed session to discuss Real Estate, Litigation, and Personnel. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting is open to the public.

The Salem TCRC at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem will be hosting a town hall meeting today at noon to discuss Missouri’s portion of a national agreement regarding foreclosure abuses. Assistant Attorney General Mary Mulhearn will be in Salem to discuss how this will affect current landowners and those who have lost their home to foreclosure. Of the $155 million dollars in benefits, $86 million will go to Missouri homeowners who are behind on their mortgage payments; another $38 million will go to homeowners who are making payments every month, but now owe more principal on their home than they are worth; and more than $31 million will be targeted to Missouri homeowners who lost their homes due to foreclosure between January 1^st, 2008 and December 31^st, 2011 because of bad servicing practices. There are no local banks affected by this settlement, but loans through national lenders such as Ally and Chase may qualify. The town hall meeting today is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, March 9^th at 6:50 in the evening, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of East Roosevelt with assistance from the highway patrol. A 45-year old Washington male was arrested for possession of marijuana and issued a summons to appear in court. A 54-year old male and a 45-year-old female were arrested for distribution of a controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana. They were incarcerated pending application for warrants. On Saturday, March 10^th at 2:43 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to the 1500 block of West Beasley in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct, minor in possession of intoxicants, and damage to private property. She was incarcerated and will be issued summons to appear in court up her release.
