The Salem Baseball Tigers beat Houston Friday in the continuation of their suspended game by the score of 5-3. Salem had only four hits in the game but received six walks and took advantage of three Houston errors. Andrew Conaway got the win for the Tigers. In the second game Friday afternoon with Mountain Grove, George Lada scattered four Salem hits in going the distance and drove in a run to lead Mountain Grove past Salem, 3-1. Brady Floyd pitched well giving up two hits and two runs, but only one was an earned run. Saturday at West Plains, the Zizzers scored four runs in the 4th inning en route to a 6-2 win over the Tigers. Each team had seven hits in the game. Austin Bettigrew had two hits for Salem. The Salem JV Baseball Tigers lost to West Plains Saturday in their first game of the year by a final score of 4-3 as the Tigers left eight men on in the five-inning game. The JV will play at Licking following the Varsity Game Tuesday.
Brian Elliott stopped 20 shots for his eighth shutout of the season as the St. Louis Blues downed the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-0, on Sunday. St. Louis gave itself some room in the chase for the Presidents' Trophy as the team has 103 points and is two ahead of the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers. Alex Pietrangelo and David Backes each posted a goal and an assist for the Blues. The Blues will play the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
Matt Holliday belted a two-run home run in the fourth inning to help the Cardinals to a 9-2 victory over the Twins in spring training action on Sunday. Jon Jay smacked a three-run homer and Shane Robinson added a solo shot for the Cardinals. Kyle Lohse went six innings in the start, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. The Cardinals play Boston today at 12:05.
Scooter Gennett hit for the cycle and finished with three RBI and two runs scored as the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Kansas City Royals, 7-3, in Cactus League action on Sunday. Terry Evans ripped a solo home run, while Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler each had an RBI for the Royals. Starter Felipe Paulino gave up five runs on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. The Royals play the Giants this afternoon.
